Dying Light rant
Dead Island 4 came out in 2011
Left 4 Dead 2 release in 2009
Both of these games are massive and handle dozens if not hundreds of zombies on screen using tech that is now almost 2 decades old.
So how is it that Dying Light (released in 2015) can barely handle more than 5-12 zombies on screen at a time before stuttering and dropping frames?
They tried so hard to make the game look good (it doesnt btw) that i guess they just completely forgot to optimize anything about it. I mean literally anything. This game will stutter and freeze while in the main menu.
When i first played it, i thought the issue was my laptop, but now, years later, with better equipment and internet, the game plays exactly the same.
Which really sucks because the concept is great. Free-running through a densely populated city in order to escape zombies/volatiles/thugs/etc is fantastic, that's awesome!
So why wouldn't you optimize fighting hordes? Now, yes, i know the main point is to run away and survive but there literally missions and quarantine zones where you're supposed to eliminate a horde, yet those are so difficult not because of the mechanics, but because of the game not processing fast enough.
What do i care if i can see the pores on each zombie at the expense of a game that runs properly?
Maybe the game is just too dated. Maybe its not for me in the end.
I haven't finished my playthrough, so i may revisit this if the story also becomes annoying.
