IMAGINE being a young teenager. You are in a place, one you don’t know very well. You are out of your comfort zone. Your parents are supposed to protect you. Prevent horrible things from happening to you. When you act out, to show that those things they are supposed to protect you from. Those things, were being let in your safe haven.
His Uncle Alexi was supposed to be his father’s best friend. He was his father’s younger, cooler brother. He left Sweden at eighteen, to go to America. He was one of the reasons they came over. His father longed to be close with his brother again. Unknown to his father the real horror he was putting his children through. It started with really long hugs, and his uncle rubbing their backs.
When he took Yael and Mykie out to the amusement park. Neither would think he’d do what he did. When he touched them both, did things to them. He told them it was normal. Neither teens, never believed differently. Yael never spoke out, and Mykie didn’t think anything of it. It wasn’t until he told his fiancée to not hug or be around his Uncle. That she asked him, what was wrong.
When he told her everything, the various molesting. The rape of his little sister, years later. The seventeen-year old boy was confused. His parents never spoke of this stuff. Why would they? They had no reason to think anyone would do this. They trusted who they let around their children. Why would his father’s younger brother be a child molester, why would he hurt his niece and nephews. Years later the secret came out to his parents. His father was angry, he was hurt and betrayed. That night his father murdered his Uncle. Mykie once again hid another secret. They sunk his body in the swamps of Miami. The Alligators eating the monster. No one knows he’s dead, they assumed he ran off. If only they knew? But at least their is one less monster in the world, right?
