NGC 7000 in Cygnus - I bought the Optolong L-eXtreme dual narrowband filter last year, but I haven't seriously used it until last night. Paired with the ZWO ASI071 and the 800mm f/4 Newtonian, I am pleasantly surprised with the data and processed image. The North America Nebula (NGC 7000) in the constellation Cygnus hit 30° above the horizon around midnight, and I spent over 3.5 hours capturing data, 45 x 300-second exposures stacked in DSS. This has to be the most efficient way to get to a bi-color narrowband image, using a single filter and color astronomy camera. These colors are also close to true in terms of where they are on the visible spectrum, with hydrogen-alpha in red and oxygen III in blue.

Hectic past few months made for some much needed time to introvert under the stars. The first two tries last week were cut short due to clouds forming at around midnight and also confusing Betelgeuse and Mars (which ate up a whole hour on the first try), but with lessons learnt, the third attempt was quick to setup, align, and get rolling, so I finally got my first Horsehead Nebula image that I've been waiting for this past year. Obviously still room to improve but it's enough for a first visit! NGC 7635, the Bubble Nebula, is an H II region emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. This is a very faint object seen visually through a telescope but astrophotography clearly reveals the bubble. The “bubble” is created by stellar wind from a massive hot, young central star. The nebula is near a giant molecular cloud which contains the expansion of the bubble nebula while itself being excited by the hot central star, causing it to glow. This was captured mid last month from my backyard with my 102 mm refractor when we had a few days of respite from the wildfires’ smoke. IC 5070, the Pelican Nebula. This to 200 minutes of data capture from a week ago (pre-smokewave) in the West Desert. Captured with a 61mm #WilliamOptics refractor with a #Optolong L-Extreme filter and a #zwoasi 183 color camera. Located about 1800 light years distant in the constellation Cygnus (the Swan) IC5070 is an active mix of star formation and evolving gas clouds. The light from young energetic stars is slowly heating cold gas and causing an advancing ionization front.
