Here’s a question I need help answering

 If being subtly verbally attacked,can’t defend yourself (because interrupting would be impolite and when finished they walk away) and you feel that some of the things they say are true, and some of the things they say are false, how can you tell if:  a) they are the bully and you are being bullied  b) you are the bully and the one you bullied is now standing up to you
