Is it an inconsistency or radical change caused by survival?

replaying TWDG, maybe I noticed an inconsistency in Carley's character.

in the first episode she risks killing the entire pharmacy group to save Lee, Clementine, Kenny, Katjaa and Duck.

while arguing with Lilly, she also says that "we can't let people die, either."

in episode 3, after the fight between Lilly and Kenny, in which it is revealed that Lee chose not to help the suffering girl near the pharmacy, Carley still agrees with Lee's choices, as if she didn't care about the fact that he let that girl die.

Why? Why does she risk the survival of her group in the first episode to save people, while in the third episode she is no longer interested in helping people outside the group?

In your opinion, did the St. John's perhaps influence this radical change in Carley's mentality?
