I have legitimately never thought about the parents of the reader at all. Like some of these have to be sad, they're not seeing their daughter again.

usually i leave the reader's family out of things unless they're directly involved in the plot – à la powder keg, oleander, shelter from the storm, sttd etc.

you can safely assume they are either unaware, uncaring, driven away, threatened and/or unable to help in any meaningful way
