Saw your vid on tt about not wanting to talk about your fav books n characters and i have to say… i felt so validated… omg i am so deeeply hurt when people don’t treat my vulnerable passionate fandom heart tenderly and carefully. Like those are my babies.. it really took me back to high school when ppl called me too sensitive,,, and i was like,, just be nice !!! And now i have learned to simply avoid such situations by keeping the fandom to myself. i understand so much. i am trying so very hard to keep my mouth shut when i see people venturing into the fandoms of these stories that have become my favourite. there’s such a balance between respecting other people’s takeaways and head cannons, while protecting your own.

and i think it’s easy to feel a bit silly about it, feeling so protective over characters that don’t exist. but i think the beauty of fandom and finding media that we connect with so deeply is that so often, each character or a trait from these characters represents something in ourselves. and that makes it feel so personal. whether it’s good or bad, sad or otherwise, it’s just what it is.

and what’s the point of books if not to fall deeply in love with them?

i think if you speak your truth, talk about them in a way that feels like YOURS, and engage with fellow fandomers who seem to feel the same way as you, you’ll find a good balance of protecting how much they mean to you, and connecting with other people who love them just as fiercely as you do.
