Not like my usual posts, but Mckamey Mannor is a disgusting concept. If you don’t know what it is you can look it up, but be careful of images/videos, or if words referencing physical and psychological torture trigger you at all.
I understand “extreme experiences” and i’m not usually one to be critical of this stuff. I say if you sign a waver you get what you get. But at the end of the day, humans have a moral obligation to understand that despite telling people they’re agreeing to potential assault and all the other crazy things that happen in that place, people are naive and overconfident and they’re going to misjudge their ability to handle that experience, as well as assume it’s not as intense as it sounds. It’s human nature.
Yes, it’s also the job of people who go to genuinely consider if they could recover from something like this, but the fact that it’s even an option to have an “experience” like this is insane. It especially irks me that it hasn’t been shut down, although it should never have been opened in the first place.
One of my biggest worries is the kinds of people they let work in these places. Clearly they’re all some degree of insane to be able to watch shit like this happen to people, but how dangerous do those people get? The potential for sexual assault and death is way too high.
Not to mention the genuine experiences people have had with torture against their will, and here comes an arrogant unapologetic old white man making it a game because todays world is full of adrenaline junkies who have no idea where to draw the line anymore.
This might sound dramatic, and to be truthful i am more heated than i was when i first discovered it. But that’s because I watched a clip of a woman who was clearly (as she could manage, at least) saying she didn’t know where she was and begging for help. And there was another instance where a woman wanted to press charges because she apparently said her safeword repeatedly for minutes before she was removed. Idiots with every kind of complex possible, desperate to be “original” (Leigh Whannell did this shit better in 2004 and he didn’t give anyone a heart attack) are obviously not qualified to deem when a participant is no longer lucid and therefore no longer consenting to what is happening to them.
Anyways, I know this place is old news but i really just had to get that out. I love horror, I love being scared, and I understand that people find joy in potentially “unethical” things, but this is the definition of taking it too far.
