Question. Do you ever think what Orange!Silver would be like if Flint was bedridden with the flu?
boy, DO I! i think a few people have asked me this lol do you guys not understand that i try to make the orange verse as stress-free as possible??? was that not clear??? fjdkhgjfdh the next one i write is gonna be them making flower crowns to really drive this point home.
BUT i do love drama, don’t get me wrong. so i just googled it and it seems the 18th century, while not calling it influenza, really had no better remedies than we have now, because the human race was too busy, idk, developing better weapons of war??
so if flint woke up with a coughing fever, silver would leap out of bed, throw some trousers on, hear flint weakly say, “don’t get a doctor,” put on a boot, saddle up solomon, and be halfway down the road before he registers what flint said, and meekly turn back.
he’d want to take care of flint, of course, but he realizes it’ll take him double time to do anything if one of his hands is occupied by his crutch. so he goes down to the basement and puts on the iron leg he keeps in case of emergencies. and it hurts like a BITCH but now he can drag the bathtub over to the shade easier and fill it up with ice cold water, and then dump flint into it and leave him to soak while getting a chicken soup going in the kitchen (because that’s apparently been a thing since the 12th century).
and flint is just dazed and soaking in the tub, snotting everywhere, his cheeks bright pink, his eyes all glassy, and he’ll be watching silver like “when did you grow another foot” but silver just takes a long shirt, soaks it in freezing well water, and wraps it around flint’s face
and then when the sun and flint’s skin has warmed the water enough that it’s not really helping, silver will hustle flint out of the tub and into their bed still soaking wet. then silver will undress and attach himself to flint’s backside to try and sweat the fever out. flint would be like “you’re gonna get sick too idiot” and silver is just like “good” because if this fever takes flint, it can take silver just as easily.
and the next morning flint will wake up clear-headed and clammy and shaky but no longer feverous and takes in an overly warm silver, whose left leg is inflamed and cut open from the iron leg, and twenty minutes later flint will be halfway to town on solomon before he realizes silver asked him not to get a doctor, and the whole sad, pathetic cycle will start over again because they are sad and pathetic.
