I identified this orange ladybird the other day. It is, apparently, an Orange Ladybird.

It could be an orange ladybird! There are a few other species that are similarly colored, so it would depend on location, but it’s not an Asian lady beetle.

Orange ladybird (Halyzia sedecimguttata)

The orange ladybird is a species of Coccinellidae, also known as ladybird. Common in woodlands, both larvae and adults feed mainly on mildew and occasionally on small aphids. Their physical appearance is marked by a striking orange colour and the presence of usually 16 creamy white spots. Formerly uncommon, the species has established itself over the 20th century and is now common in many parts of Europe and the British Isles.

Looks like Brittany has some great bugs! I'm losing my mind about that first dude, what a weirdo. And the orange ladybird, what a great color! Same with the bright yellow beetle in the 7th photo, I had to look that one up. Turns out it's a sulphur beetle, which makes sense :) Lovely batch of friends, thank you for sharing!

Found in southern Germany!

Ohhhh what a precious yellow babe! There are two species in Coccinellidae, the ladybug family, that look like this! They are Halyzia sedecimguttata and Vibidia duodecimguttata, and they’re so similar I couldn’t really hope to choose between the two based on one photo or even several photos. Although if I had to guess I’d say Halyzia sedecimguttata since that’s more common in Germany. Either way this little pal is alarmingly adorable. Thanks for sharing!
