i've tried to be patient and not add to the discourse but i'm reaching the end of my tether with the merc PU deployment issues now.

last year was enjoyable because of how neck and neck it was with oscar and lando all throughout. the alternating victories, pole positions, and standings in the championship was what made you tune in each weekend.

but this year you're telling me that oscar has suddenly dropped behind him by the exact same amount of time on every possible track and car configuration?? his lag to lando has been more consistent than mclaren's overall position on the grid.

i want to see them fight on track. i bet they want to fight on track too.

and you're telling me george russell, who finished last season in P4, three whole positions above his teammate, has also lost the exact same amount of driving skill to kimi as oscar has to lando?

all the scapegoating of their driving style is just their teams avoiding the shame of accepting they don't know what the fuck is wrong with the car. these are drivers who've been in f1 for multiple years and performed in a variety of machinery—they are only still here because they can adapt their driving to the car. side-eyeing their abilities as a driver is patronising as fuck bc everyone is treating them like children who are too stupid to understand something new; when that's always been a core requirement of their job that they've never failed to fulfil before today.

i want to see switch-ups in grid positions. i want to not know which teammate is going to be on top at the end of a quali or a race.

it doesn't even feel like a professional competive sport atp, much less a thrilling championship battle.

this is probably just me rpfing to cope *so might delete later when i'm less in my feels* but i feel like lando wasn't as giddy during his celebration as he would have been had oscar been up there with him.

for his first win as wdc, he was def very happy, but he wasn't quite running around with the same lightheartedness and excitement as i'd have expected.

oscar was his only real comp this race and he built up a tonne of momentum for that battle, and then it all got sapped out in a single instant by that disappointing dnf. he got edged just like we did.

imo for him half the pleasure of winning over oscar is getting to stand above him on the podium steps, and that was stolen from him today.

I have so many thoughts about men who dislike Lando Norris (he's for the girls and the gays but I will prove this at a later date), but even more specifically about men who dislike Lando but like Oscar.

They always position Lando as foil to Oscar's "cool, calm, controlled" demeanour. They try to present Oscar as skilled and consistent but Lando as erratic, lucky, only good by accident or when things go in his favour. When Lando has been far more consistent than Oscar over his career. Even at his worst last year, the man never dropped below 2nd whereas Oscar ended up 3rd (this isn't anti-Oscar btw, I love him, just to point out how non-evidence based people's analysis of them is).

The whole allegation is based on nothing but emotional projection because their brain can't process the facts that counter their preconceived notions about who they think Lando is and how he performs.

And what's funniest to me is that they keep trying to shove Oscar into their macho male power fantasy of cool guy with aura who's unfazed by everything and above it all when it couldn't be further from the truth.

He's just a lil dude who likes racing cars!! He genuinely is one of the more emotional, expressive, and sensitive people on the grid! Like can't you see how much he cares, how affected he is by his performance every single time?? He might keep his words fairly neutral and distant, unlike some other drivers, but his emotions are always written all over his face.

And what's even more funny is that Oscar clearly likes Lando a lot. He latched on to Lando out of all other people on the grid for a reason! He liked Lando before he even knew him! There is some part of him that finds emotional connection and safety in Lando being how he is.

Lando and Oscar are more alike than people want to accept and everyone who is close to them says the same thing.

So it's so entertaining to me when I come across men who are like Oscar is cool but I don't like that Norris guy. Lmao okay you just said you don't like your fave's fave and have a completely false idea of who Oscar is as a person, but sure you do you.

i'm ngl as someone who joined the fandom only this year, experiencing the first race where lando and oscar fans are fighting each other is lowkey fascinating to me lmao

i feel like i have to thread the needle when deciding whether to like or reblog a post when i've spent the last few months spamming the buttons with no thought behind it at all

it's like i'm in a gc with school friends who've just had a spat so now i suddenly have to spend 100x longer framing my texts in a way that cannot, in any possible reading, be misinterpreted as me picking a side

landoscar sexuality

my (completely rpf) theory of Lando's and Oscar's sexuality is that Lando is the kind of guy who loves anything and anyone pretty and enjoys chasing+getting fun things in life, one of which is women. but, if he sat and thought about it for a more than a second, would realise that he has more meaningful relationships with men and enjoys spending time w + touching them more. but will never find the time or allow himself to have a think about it (until something/someone forces him to)

and Oscar is the kind of guy who has sat and thought about it very early in his life and reached the conclusion that he would not be opposed to fucking men in addition to women. but then also reached the adjacent conclusion that the world would create too much drama around it and distract him from his Main Love which is Racing. so he just finds a woman that he likes + enjoys the company of, who is chill and laid back, so he can devote all his time to doing more Racing. (until something/someone makes him want something other than Racing in a way he never has before)

i have so many angsty WIPs going on that i've been trying to put all my brain cells into writing well.

but something good happened in my life yesterday and now i'm in the mood to turn my brain completely off and bang out the cringiest, tropiest, most unoriginal and plainly written fluff ever.

i think that's what i need to do. sometimes the healthiest thing really is to regress to the psyche of a 15 year old and write what that person would consider peak romance.

my characters are going to be one dimensional but they are going to be fucking happy and free of the weight of the world!!

doing my thesis at the same time as getting into this fandom has been an astonishingly parallel experience.

like i can now cite events from memory and reference evidence like photographs and comments organically in conversation.

i can weave them into my own creations without having to look them up again. i can identify those same original set of incidents and base assumptions in the new work i come across.

i have full schemas of different characterisations of the main players and the old and influential work that triggered them. i know how those concepts evolved over time with new information coming to light.

i know which people and which works disagree with those interpretations and forked off into a new subfield.

and idk how else to describe the neatly organised knowledge my brain has acquired over the last few months except as being across the literature.

lando norris got me into f1 so he is important to me, personally (but i don't think he's a perfect faultless angel at all times, if that's a concern for you). i also love oscar, and root for george and lewis. but tbh all drivers compel me in different ways, so i'm never really upset at any of them winning.
