"Your Highness?” A distant voice says. He looks up. Oh, it’s Counselor Takako, hovering at the entrance to the chamber. She bows politely, frowning at him.

“I’ll be right in,” he says, bowing back.

She eyes him for a moment, then goes inside.

He stares at the dark velvet curtain. On the other side of it lies freedom.

honestly its very funny to me that i was like "yeah id love to write an avatar fic but none of the ships are really calling to me" then i realized all the parallels and symbolism between zuko and aang and proceeded to write my longest fic to date, a 100K+ word epic, about it.

“Do you think we could stop for some food?” Aang asks when they disembark, eyeing a touristy noodle bar across the street.

“No,” Zuko says, pulling his robe tighter, “My bag had the money and that’s probably at the bottom of Full Moon Bay.”

“I’m sure someone would be willing to give The Avatar and the Fire Lord something for free!” Aang says with a grin, waggling his eyebrows. Sure enough, a couple people turn their heads.

“What?” Zuko balks, his face burning, “We don’t need a handout, Aang.”
