This is not a Legacies Update, but I am taking my first professional orchestra audition today. Good vibes and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Audition Preparation - Day One
11 weeks until the audition and I have a lot of work to do! I’m a bit rusty in terms of playing so that’ll be a separate issue, so in the meantime let’s looks at what I need to play:
The Excerpts:
FLUTE
Beethoven Symphony No. 5 mvt. II
Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 mvt. I & II
Brahms Symphony No. 1 mvt IV
Dvorak Cello Concerto mvt I
Rimsky-Korsakov Capriccio Espagnole mvt I, II, & IV
Strauss Till Eulenspiegel
PICCOLO
Rossini The Thieving Magpie: Overture
Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 mvt I
Stravinsky The Firebird
Definitely a challenging selection and so here is my plan to tackle all of this:
Find as many recordings as possible, make a playlist and listen
Build back up stamina and technique on flute/piccolo in short bursts of practice throughout the day (see instagram for daily updates of my practice journal)
Research history of works, analyse and annotate scores (will have a masterlist to all my posts on Tumblr)
Apply knowledge and regained technique to practice of excerpts
Sounds way easier when you write it out in a list... right? Right???
Stay tuned for more updates!!
This is not a Legacies Update, but I didn’t make it to the next round of the symphony orchestra auditions. I am happy with how I played, and this can be a leaning experience for future orchestra auditions.
I just literally had the worst audition to get in an orchestra that I have ever done in my life gang.
I EVEN GOT THE
“Do you wanna come back in a few minutes and try again?”
Right so I wanna quit violin (not really I’ve been playing for over 10 years atp.)
god im an idiot i didnt mean to do this again
I've been working with a sports psychologist master's student on focus. Her recommendation, for when I'm getting bored or unfocused during repetitive excerpt practice, was to have an inspirational poster or phrase visible so I could look at it, and then keep practicing! I made this. I feel like a teenage girl doodling some crush's name. Instead, I'm an adult and my crush is classical music.
On that note, what /should/ one do as far as hair/makeup/nails/clothes for an orchestra audition? I wanna look like I'm taking it seriously but not too fancy??
Every time i realize what dqy it is, i freak out a bit
