But I ☝️ have a theory about this!
Look at the flowchart. Peccatula is to Distortion what Ordeals are to Abnormalities. They are both "failures" to go through something; they both, if you will, are about being taken over by a generic concept not special to yourself.
Distortions are people overtaken by their personal trauma, so much that they start to embody it.
Abnormalities are people reduced to one single concept about their trauma.
Peccatula happen when people get overtaken by their Sins instead of their trauma.
Ordeals happen with improper dosage of Cogito, transforming into something like blights of the City instead of concepts specific to oneself. They both draw upon the well of humanity and get specific concepts but one is associated with the person themselves and the other is not.
Further corellation between the two, all Sins are associated with colors similar to those of ordeals (except green, which I'll try to explain later).
Wrath - Crimson, Sloth - Amber, Pride - Indigo, Envy - Violet, unseen Madness - White; with other Sin colors not being represented by ordeals: Scarlet, Shamrock, Azure, and Black
Also, while Pecattula are straightforward with their Sin representation, Ordeals represent sort of deeper struggles of the City. Crimson ordeals are about violence and self-indulgence, Amber ordeals are about the competition and the mutual destruction, Green ordeals are about technology, perhaps about the fear of the inhuman?, Violet ordeals are about the struggle for incomprehensible knowledge, and the White ordeals are about the City itself nd the hierarchy of power in it.
Why I think the Green ordeals are not represented by any Sins: they're supposed to represent machines, not human struggles, and Sins are about different human flaws. And while on that, again, the difference between Ordeals and Peccatula ate that Ordeals represent the greater struggles of the City while Peccatula represent individual struggles.
I think Sins are sort of evolutions of Ordeals, because Carmen wanted everyone to be more in touch with their emotions, more "selfish" for better or for worse
There's also Shin&Mang which doesn't seem to have an equivalent but that's a whole another thing
