Attempt at Oreo Milk
I’ve decided I’m going to do a series of where I heat up milk and put stuff in it, in hopes of reaching some drinkable result. This first one, I feel, is pretty straightforward - crushed up Oreo in hot milk. How bad can it be? (I made a video)
Ingredients:
3 Oreos, crushed in a ziplock bag
2% Milk, ~ cup full
Evaporated milk to taste
Steps:
Crush Oreos. I used a hammer, but whatever works best for you.
Pour milk in a pot.
Stir until milk froth is rising and you have to get it off the heat immediately or else it’ll spill.
Pour into mug of your choosing.
It smells a bit like a movie theatre’s heady scent of popcorn. Sweet caramel popcorn. Like the moment you step into the main lobby and the smell of MOVIE POPCORN assaults you. It’s not bad! Kind of reminiscent of times long gone (year and a half).
The milk quickly develops a film on top. You may want to stir it, or you may not. I chose to stir it. Actually, the moment I stuck my spoon in, the film got on the spoon, so I ate the whole thing. Tastes like Oreo oatmeal.
It doesn’t taste bad, the drink itself. Mostly warm sweet milk at first, and then the cookie taste hits you. It’s not strongly of Oreo, but it’s definitely not obviously of Oreo. I’m going to try evaporated milk. I put quite a bit in. Using words as a measurement of time, it would be glop glop glop glop, in 4/4.
The consistency is much creamier now, but the Oreo taste is lost a bit more. The texture is grainy, but not unpleasant. When you let it cool, it gets sort of thick, like a warm milkshake. But not thick.
My conclusion is thus: crushing Oreos and putting it into hot milk will create a drink that doesn’t taste awful. For a stronger Oreo taste, crush more Oreos. If you’re going to use a hammer, crush gently.
Grandma in the distance: where did this hammer come from?
