Obama Gets Design
I continue to be blown away by the design coming out of Washington, D.C. Specifically by the group of designers that Obama has working for him. Regardless of political affiliation, designers all over the world should be inspired by these different designers and their work. It truly is at the leading edge of design along the lines of the work coming out of Facebook, Google, and Apple.
2012 Obama Presidential Campaign
The design team for Obama’s campaign continued the work of the 2008 campaign team. They came up with brilliant and poignant graphics that spoke to multiple demographics depending on the distribution channel. Whether it was through social media, print, video, or digital, these designers came up with solutions that drove their messages home. If you haven’t taken a look at these teams members work you are missing out. See the list below for links to their portfolios.

Organizing for Action
Organizing for Action is a political organization that advocates for President Obama’s agenda items (CNN.com). It originally started as Obama for American which was the name of Obama’s re-election campaign. The design ethos that permeated Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign continues on at Organizing for Action.
The team of talented designers is led by Carla Pearlman, design director for OFA. Here is a great case study of the OFA website redesign.
Liberal Guilt
I'm white. Midwestern. A Catholic drop out. "College" educated. And boy oh boy do I gots the liberal guilt.
For example, I will go out of my way to recycle something. Like, carry something that is garbage in my purse because eventually I'll run across a recycling can (thank you, Seattle). I often get on my high horse about gun control (come on, GRANDMA), social issues, and don't get me started on wealth distribution.
I love that because I act and will never make much money I imagine myself as Mimi from Rent and every night I'm singing "Take Me Out." (Come see my balcony. I swear, that railing is catcalling for a music video to be shot on it.) That Mimi girl was most definitely liberal. Taking drugs and being a stripper will do that to a gal.
And while I'm not a drug user or pole dancer, I still know how to walk that liberal walk. Here's the steps:
1. Be poor 2. Don't shower everyday (because curly hair don't care) 3. Desire that everyone is happy, safe, taken care of, and loved
Pretty easy. You'll be the black sheep at your Iowa Thanksgiving before you know it. "No thanks, I don't eat meat."
But, no matter how liberal I am, nothing can stop me from my next move: I'm going to unsubscribe from the Organizing for Action emails. I know. I know. A pox on my house. But I'm sorry, Obama, I need to tap out. For years, YEARS, I've gotten at least one email a day from the Obama team. I even open them up because I want their open rates to be impressive. I've only donated a handful of money, back in freakin' 2012. I only put the bumper sticker on my car after he won. And really, I'm not up to date on what the hell is happening in our government. My news comes from whatever clip from the Daily Show Facebook deems important enough to shove in my Newsfeed the next morning. I only stay on this email list because I'm afraid of what it will say about me to be a self-professed liberal that doesn't receive them.
Well, enough's enough. Peace out, POTUS. No more inbox time for you. I've got a Fab.com email with my. name. on. it.
