So, playing around with it some, I think I may just need to reduce the amount of headings in my files xD That's what seems to be slowing down the ox-hugo export #OxHugo #OrgMode #Emacs #HugoBlog

Emacs question: I’m using dwm, and if I have my Emacs window open with tiling turned on my orgmode tables gets messed up due to text/line wrapping. Toggle-truncate-line will fix this but then line wrapping is disabled and lines of text in the rest of the orgmode files will continue way outside of my screen real estate. Can I have it both ways, ie I want my orgmode table to render properly but the rest of the lines of text in the orgmode file to be wrapped.

Ugh, I don’t know what happened in the past few months, but ox-hugo is running a whole lot slower now. It takes a solid 3 minutes to export *anything* on top of how long it would normally take.

It’s funny how I always feel a little weird recommending emacs to people as a way to do a thing that I use emacs to do. Like. I mostly use emacs for org-mode, and there’s a lot that org-mode can do, but I don’t take it quite as far as most people. I don’t do email, mastodon, etc through emacs. It’s just to manage my files. But again, there’s a lot of you can do with that.

I think the actual issue is that a lot of people react negatively to the suggestion, probably because they’re sick of hearing it, and they’re sick of hearing it because we talk about it a lot, and we talk about it a lot because we do a lot of stuff in it. Is it the most user-friendly piece of software? Absolutely not, but it is one of the most user-centric that I’ve come across. Hell, I used to blog just in emacs, and the only reason I switched was because I’m going to want to paywall some stuff shortly, and it’s difficult to do that with a static site.

Just to say; The reason we recommend this is because while the learning curve is steep, it’s well worth it for just the amount of things you can do with it.

Hell, I can even convert my posts here into org-mode if I ever feel like going back to doing things the way I used to, which is a possibility.

Being in Org mode and doing C-c C-c or something similar at the wrong place gives you a message that “C-c C-c can do nothing useful here” and it feels just like using your inventory in old Sierra and Lucasart point-and-click adventures games:“How can you do that?"/“Nothing happens”.
