Most of my recent artworks were done with the intention of practicing or exploring something - in this case I really wanted to get a hang on how to paint darker skin colors with watercolor. I think I was semi-successful.

I tried applying the different variation of the wave pattern into an illustration. Something that I do whenever I just want to think and keep my hands busy with a pen. The Asanoha pattern is one of the most popular traditional patterns often seen on Japanese kimono.  Asanoha means: Asa = hemp: no = of: ha = leaf. The regular geometric pattern, though abstract, represents overlapping hemp leaves. The wives of merchants would wear it, to bring good fortune to the wearer. Because hemp was known for its rapid growth, the pattern was often used for clothes of newborn children.
