An Oriental Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus orientalis) singing on a power line near a reed bed. Its imposing form somehow reminds me of a dinosaur (though I suppose that makes sense, since it’s a descendant).

芦原の近くの電線の上でさえずっていたオオヨシキリ。 そのいかつさには、どことなく恐竜を思い出す（子孫だからそりゃあそうなんだけれど）。

Oriental reed warbler, Acrocephalus orientalis How lively their voices are everywhere in the reed beds that dot our region. Their resonant call even through the night was so loud that Matsuo Basho, the famous haiku poet, even accused them of disturbing his "peaceful sleep" in his haiku. "The reed warbler cries out to me that I cannot do anything and just want to sleep. Please let me sleep quietly!" We can see their majestic, feathery silhouettes sometimes through the reeds.

オオヨシキリ 当地に点在する葦原では、どこでもまあにぎやかなこと。 夜にも響く大声量は、かの松尾芭蕉をして 「能なしの　眠たし我を　行々子」 とその"安眠妨害"を俳句で非難せしめたほど。 羽毛を逆立てた雄々しい姿を、時々葦の間から見せてくれる。
