The Lost Mysteries of the Ancients
Dalish Elf Origin, Part 2 – Elven Ruins
Tamlen: It… looks like the shem was telling the truth. But these ruins look more human than elven.
Environmental Dialogue
After first undead encounter:
Tamlen: Were those walking corpses? This place is haunted!
After killing the Bereskarn:
Tamlen: By the Creators! What… what was that thing?!
Interacting with the Statue
Tamlen: I can't believe this. You recognize this statue, don't you?
Dialogue Options:
Enough gawking. Let's move on.
Tamlen: Touchy, aren't we? There's bound to be more. Let's keep looking around. (DIALOGUE ENDS)
It's worn, but it looks vaguely familiar…
Maybe. Why should I care?
Tamlen: Back when our people lived in Arlathan, statues like these honored the Creators. When the shems enslaved us, much of that lore was lost.
Tamlen: This looks like human architecture… with a statue of our people. Can these ruins date back to the time of Arlathan?
Dialogue Options:
This isn't the time or place for a history lesson, Tamlen.
Tamlen: I suppose you're right. Still, the possibility is thrilling!
It's interesting. So much of our past is lost to us.
Tamlen: I'd never have guessed ancient elves might have lived here! With humans!
We're nowhere near Arlathan, and this proves nothing.
Tamlen: We must have lived in other places, too. Even if elves didn't live here, its architects knew of our gods.
Perhaps, but there isn't much left down here.
Yes… time and decay take their toll. Still, there's bound to be something of value!
(DIALOGUE ENDS)
The Mirror
Read 1A if you interact with the mirror.
Read 1B if you try to leave the room.
1A - Player Interacts with the Mirror
Tamlen: It's beautiful, isn't it? I wonder what the writing says.
Dialogue Options:
Stand back. We can't be sure it's safe.
Tamlen: It sat here for who knows how many centuries--what could be so dangerous? Don't worry; I won't break it. [2]
The keeper might be able to translate it.
Tamlen: Maybe, but she's not here to help us. Odd that it isn't broken like everything else, especially with that bear lumbering around in here. [2]
"Do not touch the glass?"
Tamlen: (scoffs) Not that we'd leave a fingerprint on it… see how clean it is? Not a single smudge or crack. [2]
1B - Player tries to leave the Mirror Room
Tamlen: You aren't going to leave without taking a closer look at the mirror, are you?
Dialogue Options:
I'll come back and look at it later.
Tamlen: I want to look at it now. It's the only thing we've seen in here that isn't broken. [2]
I don't trust it, and neither should you.
Tamlen: It sat here for who knows how many centuries--what could be so dangerous? Don't worry; I won't break it. [2]
If you're so eager to look at it, go ahead.
Tamlen: I will. This is the only thing we've seen here that isn't broken. [2]
2 - Scene Continues
Something ripples in the mirror.
Tamlen: I wonder what this writing is for? Maybe this isn't--hey, did you see that?
Tamlen: I think something moved inside the mirror.
Dialogue Options:
Inside the mirror? Let me see.
The mirror ripples again. Tamlen: Look! Don't you see it? There it is again!
Get away from it, Tamlen…
The mirror ripples again. Tamlen: Hold on, I just want to know what it is. Don't you see it? There it is again!
You're imagining things.
The mirror ripples again. Tamlen: No, it was right there. Wait--there it is again!
Tamlen: Can you feel that? I think it knows we're here. I just need to take a closer look…
Tamlen approaches the mirror.
Tamlen: It's showing me places. I can see... some kind of city! Underground... And there's a great blackness.
The mirror makes a strange noise
Tamlen: It saw me! Help! I can't look away.
The mirror thrums with magical power, throwing both of them backwards.
The PC blacks out.
When they drift back to consciousness, they briefly see a human: Duncan.
Duncan: Can you hear me? I am... very sorry.
The player blacks out again.
