The Lost Mysteries of the Ancients
Fenarel: You're awake! You've the gods' own luck, lethallan.
Fenarel: You're awake! You've the gods' own luck, lethallin.
Fenarel: You're back at camp. Everyone is worried sick about you. How do you feel?
A. How did I get here, Fenarel?
Fenarel: A shem brought you back two days ago. You don't remember him?
B. Fine, Fenarel, but a little groggy.
Fenarel: We thought you would die. The shem who brought you here said there wasn't much hope. Seems he was wrong.
C. Worried. Where is Tamlen?
Fenarel: We don't know. The shem who brought you here saw no sign of him.
(only available if A was chosen) I've been here for two days?! [1]
(only available if B or C was chosen) There was a human? [2]
(if human hunters lived in Part 1) We drove off some shems in the forest. [3]
(if one human hunter was killed in Part 1) We killed a shem in the forest...
(if all humans were killed in Part 1) We encountered shems in the forest, but we killed them.
I don't remember anything. I was in a cave, then... nothing. [1]
1 – I've been here for two days?!
Fenarel: He was a Grey Warden and appeared out of nowhere with you slung over his shoulder.
Fenarel: You were delirious with fever. He said that he found you outside a cave in the forest, unconscious and alone. [Exit Dialogue Tree 1]
Fenarel: A shem brought you back two days ago. You don't remember him? [Return to dialogue tree, 2 is now available]
3 – We drove off some shems in the forest
Fenarel: I doubt you could have driven this one off. [1]
Fenarel: Oh... The keeper's not going to like that. But I doubt those shems have anything to do with the one who found you. [1]
I need to talk to the keeper right away.
Fenarel: She wants to talk to you too. Stay here--I'll get her.
Is anyone looking for Tamlen?
Fenarel: Of course! Most of the hunters are off looking for him right now.
Fenarel: But the keeper wanted to talk to you as soon as you awoke. Stay here--I'll get her.
The shemlen was a Grey Warden?
Fenarel: So he claimed. I just wish he'd told us where that cave was. Most of the hunters are looking for it right now.
Fenarel: But the keeper wanted to talk to you as soon as you awoke. Stay here--I'll get her.
Fenarel: I think so. The keeper wants to talk to you, so you can ask her yourself. I'll get her.
Fenarel leaves and returns with Keeper Marethari.
Keeper: I see you are awake, da'len. It is fortunate Duncan found you when he did...
Keeper: I know not what dark power held you, but it nearly bled the life from you. It was difficult even for my magic to keep you alive.
Duncan? Is that the one who brought me back?
Keeper: Yes, he introduced himself as a Grey Warden.
I kept telling Tamlen that we should have come back!
Keeper: Do not worry, da'len. Even I might have been intrigued enough by such a cave to explore it further.
Keeper: I know only that the Grey Warden found you in front of a strange cave, sick and alone.
Then Tamlen could be sick, as well?
Keeper: If he encountered the same thing you did, yes. The Grey Warden said he found you alone outside a cave, already stricken.
Keeper: Duncan thought there may have been darkspawn creatures inside the cave. Is that true?
Why listen to anything a shemlen says? [1]
I'm not sure. What does a darkspawn look like? [2]
Did he not go inside the cave himself and see? [3]
There were walking corpses and other strange monsters. [4]
All I remember was the mirror... [5]
1 – Why listen to anything a shemlen says?
Keeper: The Grey Wardens are an old and honorable order, da'len, and we Dalish have enough enemies. Was he correct?
Dialogue Options:
- I'm not sure. What does a darkspawn look like? [2]
- Did he not go inside the cave himself and see? [3]
- There were walking corpses and other strange monsters. [4]
2 – I'm not sure. What does a darkspawn look like?
Keeper: Like a man, but dark and tainted with evil. Perhaps you fought one in the cave and it wounded you.
Dialogue Options:
- There were many monsters, and dead men that walked. [4]
- The creatures inside were nothing like that. [6]
- No, it was the mirror. [5]
3 – Did he not go inside the cave himself and see?
Keeper: No. He was more concerned about helping you.
Keeper: Why he thought there were darkspawn, I don't know. But Grey Wardens know more about them than anyone.
Dialogue Options:
- What does a darkspawn look like? [2]
- There were walking corpses and other strange monsters. [4]
4 - There were walking corpses and other strange monsters.
Keeper: Walking corpses? Dark magic, but not darkspawn. I know not what the other creatures might have been. [7]
5 – All I remember was the mirror…
Keeper: A mirror? And it caused all this ? I have never heard of such a thing in all the lore we have collected.
[Exit Dialogue Tree 2]
6 – The creatures inside were nothing like that.
Keeper: None of them were darkspawn? Duncan was so certain... [7]
Keeper: What else did you find? What is the last thing you remember?
Dialogue Options:
- A mirror. Tamlen touched it. [5]
- Did Duncan mention a mirror? [5]
Keeper: I was hoping for answers when you woke, but there are only more questions.
Keeper: And Tamlen remains missing. He is more important than any lore in these ruins. If he is as sick as you were, his condition is grave.
Keeper: Duncan returned to the cave to search for darkspawn, but we cannot rely on him to look for Tamlen as well. We must go ourselves, and quickly.
Keeper: Do you feel well enough to show us the way, da'len? Without you we will not find it.
I am up to it, Keeper. I feel fine. [1]
I don't know. Is my sickness gone? [2]
Could I simply describe the way to someone? [3]
1 – I am up to it, Keeper. I feel fine.
Keeper: I am relieved to hear it.
Keeper: I am ordering the clan to pack the camp so we can go north. Take Merrill with you to the cave. Find Tamlen if you can, but do it swiftly.
Dialogue Options:
- The clan is leaving? [4]
- Are you not interested in the ruins and the mirror? [5]
- Why do you want me to take Merrill? [6]
- Take Merrill to the cave and find Tamlen. I understand. [7]
2 – I don't know. Is my sickness gone?
Keeper: Your fever broke, and the signs of whatever illness snared you are gone... but truthfully, I don't know if you are free from it or not.
Keeper: I wish I knew more. Still, you seem well enough now. We must watch your condition, but without you we will not find this cave.
Dialogue Options:
- Then I am ready to go. [1]
- Could I simply describe the way to someone? [3]
- Tamlen may already be dead. [8]
3 – Could I simply describe the way to someone?
Keeper: Few know these forests as well as you and Tamlen, and time is of the essence.
Keeper: Remember, he has already been out there for two days without the magical aid you received.
Dialogue Options:
- Then I am ready to go. [1]
- I don't know. Is my sickness gone? [2]
- Tamlen may already be dead. [8]
Keeper: If there is any truth to what Duncan said, then darkspawn may show up in these parts soon. We must get away from that horde.
Keeper: But that is not our only concern. Did you encounter any other humans out in the forest?
Dialogue options:
- (Available if no humans killed in Part 1) Three of them. We drove them off.
>>> Keeper: Although you hurt no one, these humans roused their nearby village against us.
- (Available if one human killed in Part 1) Three of them. We killed one as an example.
>>> Keeper: So I feared. You have stirred up a hornet's nest, da'len. Their village blames us for your actions.
- (Available if all humans killed in Part 1) Three of them, but we killed them all.
>>> Keeper: So I feared. You have stirred up a hornet's nest, da'len. Their village blames us for your actions.
- Yes, actually. Is it important?
>>> Dialogue continues based on conditions above.
- None that I can recall.
>>>Keeper: I see. Well, a nearby village has taken exception to our presence. I fear that they will try to drive us out.
Keeper: As everywhere, our people are not welcome here. We have stayed too long, and we must move on -- quickly.
Dialogue Options:
- You're going to let those shemlen drive us off? [9]
- Are you not interested in the ruins and the mirror? [5]
- Why do you want me to take Merrill? [6]
- Take Merrill to the cave and find Tamlen. I understand. [7]
5 – Are you not interested in the ruins and the mirror?
Keeper: I would be lying if I said I was not.
Keeper: But whatever knowledge lies in that cave is not worth our children. I send you back with hopes of finding Tamlen, and that is all.
Dialogue Options:
- The clan is leaving? [4]
- Why do you want me to take Merrill? [6]
- Take Merrill to the cave and find Tamlen. I understand. [7]
6 – Why do you want me to take Merrill?
Keeper: Merrill knows a degree of my magic. Tamlen's chances of surviving the journey back are greater with her help.
Keeper: I also wish for Merrill to see this cave and mirror. She has a sense for these things, and could shed light on the nature of this illness.
Dialogue Options:
- But doesn't Merrill risk getting ill, as well? [10]
- The clan is leaving? [4]
- Are you not interested in the ruins and the mirror? [5]
- Take Merrill to the cave and find Tamlen. I understand. [7]

- I need more equipment before I go. [Go to Part 2b for Camp Dialogue]
- Pray for me, Keeper. [Exit Dialogue Tree 3]
8 – Tamlen may already be dead.
Keeper: Yes, he may very well be. We can only search and pray, da'len. You are his last remaining hope.
Dialogue Options:
Then I am ready to go. [1]
I don't know. Is my sickness gone? [2]
Could I simply describe the way to someone? [3]
9 – You're going to let those shemlen drive us off?
Keeper: Our clan could slaughter their entire village if we cared to... but at the cost of bringing their king's rage down on our heads.
Keeper: These people are simple and have simple fears. This is their land, so we will go peacefully.
Dialogue Options:
Are you not interested in the ruins and the mirror? [5]
Why do you want me to take Merrill? [6]
Take Merrill to the cave and find Tamlen. I understand. [7]
10 – But doesn't Merrill risk getting ill, as well?
Keeper: You recovered, and Merrill will too. Still, be careful... should you come upon this strange mirror again, do not touch it.
Dialogue Options:
The clan is leaving? [4]
Are you not interested in the ruins and the mirror? [5]
Take Merrill to the cave and find Tamlen. I understand. [7]
