CHIPPENDALE SLANT LID DESK IN RED PAINT.
2nd half 18th century, New England. The rectangular birch dovetailed case with hinged sloping lid supported by lopers opening to an interior of cubbyholes with an arrangement of 8 drawers centering a simulated prospect door (unable to open).
The case additionally fitted with 4 aligned graduated drawers, each with original brass bales and oval escutcheons on a molded base with bracket feet and bold scalloped returns.
