2, 4 and 5 + Present Tense for the ask thing! (love your writing btw!)
Thanks!! This is one of my favorite stories, which is why I’m about to completely rip it apart. :D
2: What scene did you first put down?
This one started with the beginning, which is...not that strong, which I found out when I tried to rewrite that bit from Felicity’s POV. So the beginning starts with a sentence that literally says “after everything’s happened and they’re sitting in a coffee shop,” which was I think written to get me started into writing this fic. And if it had been a short story, it would’ve been a decent beginning. But for as long as the fic ended up being, I probably needed to flesh it out somewhat. The first sentence implies that greetings and surprise have been exchanged at Laurel’s apartment, but Laurel finds out Shayna’s name in the scene itself, and trying to write the apartment meeting from Felicity’s POV made me realize: Laurel would have asked about that immediately. So whoops. A stronger beginning would have been Laurel picking up her coffee, turning, and seeing Felicity. With a baby. What.
4: What's your favorite line of dialogue?
I like banter, so apart from the time I wrote Hill’s baking Tony a pie because feminism my favorite lines tend to be setup and replies. So here goes:
“I’m only complaining because I miss the social cachet that came with the title. I definitely don’t miss the eyestrain and the machismo in the break room.”
“Now you just get it from Oliver and Dig.”
“Those pussycats? Please.”
Yeah, I realize it’s slightly ironic that my favorite exchange is about men. But I like this whole conversation because one of the things I love Felicity and Laurel having in common is that they work in jobs that are very male-dominated and there’s lots of bonding to be had there. They’re the members of the team that hold down traditional jobs that aren’t handed to them—until Felicity inherits her company.
5: What part was hardest to write?
The kissing scene. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAte writing kissing scenes. God.
