These props are inspired by things you'd normally see at urban areas within south-asian communities.

I dug deep into what’s been inspiring me to create art for Ormauk recently, and a lot of it has been my relationship with nature as an adult, but especially more so when I was a kid. I grew up a short walk away from the beach. The town that I lived in was outside of the city, but you couldn’t really classify it as suburbia. There were empty plots of land filled with guinea grass growing taller than us kids. Unfinished foundations of houses that sat undisturbed for most of my life; overgrown and abandoned. There was a small pasture for cows behind my house where frogs croaked their hymns when rain fell and created ponds. Overhead cables and graffitied electrical transformers had a specific vibe that I just don't see where I live now.

I wanted to show my version of solarpunk, and it finally clicked with me how I can achieve this; by mixing those snapshots of my childhood with thematically designed technology that fit that south-asian culture I’m trying to emulate. A bit of what exists now and what could exist.

Afterschool Hangout

Really proud of this piece. Learned a lot about rendering and scene composition. I think there's still a lot to improve on, especially with my composition process, but I'm still really happy with how this turned out.

This piece showcases Mt. Obelisk. A mountain that looms over the port city of Li-Luan; A tight-knit colony whose manufacturing focuses on multi-year ship travels. The town boasts a vibrant fishing community which is spurred on by biological organizations who wish to learn more about the locale's equally vibrant aquatic biome consisting of sprawling mangrove forests and magical reefs teeming with life.

The piece also shows students sharing an after school drink under the sun. Their uniform is definitely inspired by the asian sailor uniform which was popular where I grew up. A lot of my childhood was referenced in coming up with the idea of this town. Especially in how green and cooling nature's shade was during a warm equatorial afternoon.

I'm sure our childhood wasn't unique, but it was crazy how many ways you could fill up your after school afternoon days with, especially when you've got a bunch of kids growing up a 5 minute walk away from the beach and surrounded by overgrown lots of never finished construction houses. Houses and buildings built so close to one another made such a huge world feel like a tight, warm hug.

prophetic vision got me sketching. Doing some environmental sketch for that pixel art piece that @yardni-art was working on with me. This one's gonna be an overcast, rainy vibe. Gonna add some people in it too to really liven the place up.

Boy and the Bovine 🐮 Another character sketch I drew to get back into the groove. Really pushing myself to purposefully incorporate more Asian themes into my characters.

The creature design is inspired by the carabao, a common fixture in Filipino rice paddies. The boy's clothing includes an intricate farmer's hat along with some loose shirt, pants, and a vest. I really tried to balance traditional textures and modern hiking silhouette for the boy's fashion 🐮
