I just harvested this year’s ‘Glass Gem’ ornamental corn. Aren’t the colors glorious?

Thanksgiving is over.  The decorations now belong to the squirrels.

My obnoxious harvest display. Wife started it with some fake pumpkins and I slowly replaced it with real ones, and some ornamental corn and gourds. The two little birds are our salt and pepper shakers. ^_^

What in the world is this? It’s some of the ornamental corn I just harvested from my garden. I love the pearly quality of this heirloom variety, which is called ‘Glass Gem.’ Pretty, yes?

“Glass Gem” corn has been called the most beautiful corn in the world and small wonder. I grew it for the first time this year and I’m amazed by the colors of the oh-so-shiny kernels: green, blue, cream, purple, even orange and pink. Stunning, yes?
