Orostachys erubescens
Orostachys japonica
I got them all potted today. Some of these had way bigger roots than I expected. Having to transfer the Watch Chain Crassula to a 3in pot honestly made me kinda proud.
My Orostachy boehmeri hasn’t been looking good lately and I thought it was just from etiolation. Looks like this might explain it , too (:
This is the first time I’m having an Orostachys blooming in my garden! I honestly never expect to have a blooming one here because it’s simply too hot for any succulent to bloom :(. As far from what I know, succulents need a high temperature difference to bloom, and where I’m staying ranges between 26 to 35 in degree celcius. HEH. Cacti bloom quite often here, and echeverias NEVER do.
A pleasant surprise, but a deadly one. An orostachys bloom should be terminated because they kill the plant body, or so I’ve read. Let’s see if this adult (biggest orostachys I’ve grown from a baby plant!) boehmeri survives its blooming!
Orostachys malacophylla var. iwarenge, the entire plant flowering itself to death. November 2016.
Orostachys boehmeri ‘Keiko’
The Cthulhu plant in question. I think it's a crassula variety, which is a pretty damn large family. It has tendril-like, tapering stems with spoon-shaped leaves and small, white, star-shaped flowers above pretty much every leaf. It also appears to grow really fast. Some tendrils are already twice as long as when I bought it a week ago.
I’ve already scoured online encyclopedias for a few days and determined it's not a Trailing Jade, any of the Donkey's Tail variants, a Money Plant, or String of Pearls/Nickles, or a Chinese Dunce Cap.
My best guess at the moment is it might be a hybrid of Traling Jade and the Chinese Dunce Cap but if anyone with an actual clue has an idea I’d be glad to hear it.
