It was a very warm day. It would probably have been stifling had Ryan not grown accustomed to it. He could feel the hot desert sun beating down on his neck and the sweat collecting on his brow. There was a hint of the sweet smell of hay in the dry, stagnant air. He didn’t even need to open his eyes to know exactly where he was.
But he did so anyway, and found himself seated upon a bale of hay, facing a rather small wooden stable. Hearing the horses within, he quickly grabbed the bale and headed towards the noise. Once inside, he set the hay down and turned his attention to the brown and white mare residing in the first stall. It had been such a long time since Ryan last saw her, and didn’t expect her to recognize him. Yet he could tell she knew exactly who he was. All of those apples must have played off, he thought to himself.
But just as he leaned against the stall door to unlock it, it vanished from underneath him. There was no soft hay, or a horse to greet him. Only the cold wooden steps leading to the door of his cabin. The sweat that was brought on by the sun had turned cold and uncomfortable.
"What the hell just happened to me?"
Hmm. Math.
Lost my contacts. Ew.
