"Doctor? Why? What happened?" Lainey mumbled, looking up at him. "Why are you wet?" She looked down and blinked, then proceeded to pass out.

Her comment would almost have been comical if he wasn't scared out of his mind and hurting all over. But Ryan was so thankful that she was sort of conscious for a moment and speaking. It was just a horrible idea for him, of all people, to save someone from drowning. He was luck he didn't electrocute Lainey. Or worse, drown the both of them. But if he hadn't been there, who knows what would have happened. Maybe it was meant to be.

Ryan ran faster than ever now, despite his body screaming in protest at him. The infirmary was in sight now, everything would be okay.

Lain felt a peircing pain in her head, causing her to return to reality. It was the same as when her neighbor was choking; the feeling of panic and death. She rolled onto her stomach, coughing up the ice cold water from the pond. She held the necklace in her hand, practically frozen into a fist. “…Shit…” Lainey breathed out, shivering violently.

"Oh thank god." Ryan said as he let out a the breath he didn't know he was holding. A small smile graced his face for a moment before turning into a look of panic. They still weren't in the clear yet. "We have to get you to the doctor right now." He said as he took off his jacket to wrap it around Lainey. As he did so, he noticed the small charm she grasped in her fist. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was his mother's necklace that he had lost. "How did you get that?" He said half to himself. 

But there would be times for questions later. He scooped her up off of the ground and began running towards the infirmary. As he ran, he noticed that he was shivering as well, but he didn't know if it was from the cold, or from fear. He held her close to him, hoping that he would make it in time.

A Little Help Here || Zamira & Ryan

Zamira had finished lessons with some of the younger magic users when she decided to visit the training arena. To her surprise, the younger electric user was practicing firing off bolts. The young woman entered the ring and erected a shield around herself as Ryan built up energy in one hand. She gave him a small nod to let him know he could continue.

Ryan nodded and smiled, then turned his attention back to the ball of energy in his hand. It crackled and surged in his hand, almost like it was looking to escape his grip. He admired it for a second more before throwing it away from him. It flew a considerable distance away from him, and then bounced across the ground a few times before coming to a stop. He stood there for a moment, waiting for some kind of reaction. When he didn't see anything happen, he turned to Zamira. He was about to greet her, but as soon as he opened his mouth, the ball of lightning he threw had exploded behind him. He jumped and then ducked, covering his head in case of any flying debris from the blast.

A Little Help Here || Zamira & Ryan

Ryan could feel the electricity coursing through him as he fired off bolt after bolt of lightning. He was not nearly as bad of a shot as when he first got his power, and it was beginning to become much more controlled. That being said, Ryan decided that it would be the day he experimented with his powers to see what other types of attacks he could do. He began to channel a rather large amount of energy into his left hand, not exactly knowing what he was going to do with it. He looked around quick to see if there was anyone that could possibly be injured if something was to go wrong. He was surprised to see Zamira walking into the training area.

Not In My Nature

Ryan sat on the edge of his bed, the electric glow coming from his hand was the only source of light in the room. He sat quietly and mulled over the day's events while watching the bolts flicker and spark across his finger tips. This was the whole reason he was here. This stupid power that has basically taken away everything since he first got it. There is no way his life would ever go back to normal. 

He never was one to fight. In fact, Ryan hated it. It just wasn't in his nature. When he was very young he realized that there was just too much hurt in this world. So why cause more? Being forced in to brutal training for a war he never asked to be in really wasn't sitting well with him. For the most part, he had managed to avoid major conflict, but had a few scraps along the way. He nearly had a heart attack when he saw the tiger and the amount of water at point B.

He extinguished the light and laid down for a restless night, knowing that everything was going to get much worse from here.

In a half conscious state, Lain felt electricity race through her body and Ryan diving through the water like a shark. She had spent a year studying sharks, in a special online class. They had laughed but  they were already laughing, so in reality, what was new? However normally, sharks did not produce electricity. Nor did they attempt to save nerds too stupid to cross a lake and not know how to swim. Swimming had never seemed important. Lainey continued her random chain of thought as she slowly fell into unconsciousness.

Ryan gripped Lainey tight and brought her quickly to shore. He was freezing, soaking wet, and still feeling the pain of the electrocution, but all he could focus on was her. A million different questions raced through his head as he laid her down on the cold ground. Is she alive? Is she breathing? What do I do? Did I hurt her? 

"C'mon Lainey." he pleaded. "Please be okay. Please wake up"

Penelope was immediately taken aback when the boy screamed, her fists balling at her sides nervously, taking a tiny step back. She didn’t know what to do, but she was confused as hell. 

When he looked at her again, he looked more relieved, and she quickly exhaled the breath she didn’t know she was holding, and shook her head when he spoke. She figured it was just nerves. A lot of people were paranoid around here. “Oh, no no, it’s okay,” she reassured him hastily, and took another few smaller steps towards him. “Are you okay?” She asked, her eye brows furrowing, concerned.

"Huh? Oh uh… Yeah I’m… I’m okay now, thanks." Ryan said with a half-hearted smile. "I’m having a really really off day." He shook his head as if whatever was in it would just fall out. The first scene was so realistic and familiar, and every time he closed his eyes he could swear he could smell the Ranch and feel the warmth of the sun beating down on him. 

He was shocked out of his daze momentarily when he realized the girl was still there and that he was making an absolute fool of himself. He stood up quickly and brushed himself off. “I’m so sorry, this is an awful first impression. I swear I’m not like this! I’m…I’m Ryan. You are?”

Sup Bro? || Carth & Ryan

Carth had been walking around looking for Ryan. He couldn’t begin to understand why. But he felt the urge, no the need to follow him. It was weird. But Carth figured there had to be a reason but he needed to find Ryan before he could figure it out. He was walking around near the mess hall when he though he spotted him.

Ryan had been watching Carth pace as he walked up to the mess hall. He seemed a bit lost, like he was looking for something, but paid it no mind, He was just ready to get something to eat. He met up with Carth near the entrance of the mess hall. "Hey man! What's up? Wanna grab something to eat with me?"

They weren’t pearls. It was  regular necklace with something like a wolf charm. Lainey reached down and picked it up, only to look back and see Ryan gesturing to her. Similarly to pressing the ‘unmute’ button, she suddenly heard him. At the same time, the cracking grew to a yell and Lain plunged into the water with a quick yelp. 

Freezing water flooded her lungs and Lainey fought to understand what was going on. In her hand, she gripped the necklace.

Fear and adrenaline ran through Ryan as he saw Lainey fall into the icy pond. Not even a second passed from when he saw her go under to when he ran in. In his panic, he forgot that he wasn't supposed to be going into water, but was now reminded as a few shocks ran through him. Quickly remembering an old science lesson, he dove under the water, hoping that the electricity would not only be away from the place where it is most conductive, but also ground instead of shocking Lainey. 

After he gained his power, he noticed that the electricity always ran above the water, not under. By staying under the water, there was a better chance that he could cause the least damage to both Lain and himself. He finally reached her and attempted to keep her above water and get back to shore in once piece.

The Nature of Reality || Ryan & Penn

Penelope’s skin was numbing in the cold air. She’d dressed for the day, which was considerably warmer, but as soon as the sun began to set, she was left on a walk back to her cabin, literally shaking in her boots. 

She began to think about writing, and how she should climb into her cabin, chop down the ladder, and destroy the stairs, as she really just wanted to be a recluse, and do something personally useful with her time, instead of throwing knives in 30 degree weather- which was a billion times harder than she thought it’d be.

When Penn again became aware of her surroundings, she was far off the given path, and had stumbled upon another camper’s cabin, catching sight of a face that she couldn’t decide if she’d met before or not. She wanted to say that they hadn’t, but then again; given her track record, she forgets everyone she meets anyways. He was in a sort of trance when she so aimlessly approach him, but snapped out of it a moment later. “I was wondering the same thing,” she smirked.

Ryan barely heard the other speak, let alone approach him. He stood and attempted to brush the dirt off of him and recollect his thoughts. His mind was in such a fog that he only noticed the girl when he almost bumped into her. But what he saw was not a girl. He saw a demonic looking figure in black robes. Its face was not that of a human, but rather the skull of some vicious animal. He let out a startled scream and fell to the dirt. 

He was almost about to shoot lighting at the frightening apparition, but instead quickly covered his face. He sat for a moment, trying to sort out his mind. When he removed his hands, he saw what was truly there. "Oh my god. I'm so sorry." He managed to choke out.

Cracks in the Pond // Open

Lain sat by the small lake, perhaps better known as a pond, her hands locked on her ankles. The wind danced across the ice, blowing back on her face. She saw something glimmering, towards the center of the pond. It looked almost like a string of pearls half frozen in the ice. However, it was oddly familiar. 

She stood up and looked around; the area was empty except for a small plume of smoke from the Agent’s cabin. The ice looked dangerous, but there was no reason to stroke the flame. She slid off her shoes, then the heavy jacket. Edging forward from the shore, Lainey sucked in her breath and took a step forward, then repeated the movement. Her eyes were fixed on the pearls- how similar they looked to one’s that her mother used to wear. Lain was so fixated that she was oblivious to the slowly fracturing ice. If she could only reach it…

Ryan had seen Lain walk towards the pond a while ago. He wanted to join her, but stayed back at first. He figured that everyone needed a moment to themselves. The longer he sat there though, the more he wanted to go out and catch up with her. It would give him a chance just to relax and just talk with someone. He was actually going to have to stay in one place for a while, so it was best to make some friends. No more having to worry about making friends and then having to leave them a month later.

Ryan threw on his jacket and ran out to find her. He followed the prints in the snow, which were considerably smaller than his own. When he arrived, he saw Lainey moving across the ice. The lake in general made him very nervous, but he had a really bad feeling about this. He called to her, doing his best not to startle her.

Uhh well... It's this necklace. I've had it for as long as I could remember. This little wolf charm on a chain. It looks like it has bits of opal in it. I need to find it. It can't be gone it just can't.
