Destroy All Humans is a fun spoof action game that while Great I felt was limited by the technology it was on (translation it was ahead of its time) I got the idea to talk about it after spending time going over Invader Zim again and thought I’d bring it to people’s attention because much like IZ, DaH was a series about an Alien protagonist trying to conquer Earth while rampaging through a horribly accurate spoof of earth. (Also Richard Horvitz is in both)
The basic summary of the entire series is that a race of aliens that look similar to the stereotype grey aliens named the Furons. A lone mothership goes to 1950’s Earth to harvest human brain stem for the purpose of preserving their race. Eons earlier the Furon’s had a war with the Martians who were named the Blisk. Their nuclear weapons where devastating and after the war was over many Furons were left sterile. Still afterwards some soldiers took a visit to earth and “left off steam” with humans ancestors. As a result humanity all has latent, untainted Furon DNA. Furons could no longer sustain their race biologically due to the after effects of their Martian War, and live on through clones, each new clone implanted with the Memory of the previous version. Each Furon has a number behind them to signify which version they are. You are Cryptosporidium-137 a Furon Soldier, self admitted hedonist and sadist, lead by the former commander now lead scientist Orthopox-13. Otherwise known and Crypto and Pox. They come to Earth to harvest the Furon DNA and restore the Furon race to its former glory by any means possible and establish control of the planet in order to grease the wheels of this operation.
Each game takes place 10 years between each other and targets the Culture of those era’s. Making fun of America’s communist paranoia and over the top patriotism of the 50’s, making fun of Hippie culture of the 60’s as well as Kung fu and action movies even making a Godzilla boss fight in totally-not- Hiroshima. Make fun of the Disco Fever and more Kung Fu movies and even make a spin off game to take a jab at the rise of Fast Food and how it was totally an alien plot to quietly get rid of all the bodies of people you murder.
My favorite line was Crypto telling the KGB “You idiots make Americans seem clever.” When Crypto mocks them further about how they barely understand American culture to blend in let alone stop them one agent talks about American greed and Capitalism and their violent need to obtain more and Crypto just yells “Exactly! You can’t beat that kind of muscle!”
