"My Lord, are you well? You seem flustered this night." The Advisor spoke to his King under the wisteria. The King replied, his eyes wide and breath taken, "I am well, I was just... taken aback." By your beauty is unsaid, but it wasn't needed.
The Advisor always knew what his King meant. And so did the King with his Advisor.
I FINALLY FINSIHED OH MY FUCKING GOD.
More Advisor Au let's gooooooo!
@soullessseraphim since you'd probably like to see it.
Tried to do something with some cut outs I found on pinterest. If I tried to do a background, I'd kms. But, lord, I forgot how cool doing this was. Especially the borders. Love it.
Anyways, a bit more stylised this time on the both of them. I actually looked at a Snowy Owl's wings this time. No flowers because it did get a bit messy, which i solved with the border.
Again, I love facial crests as a design in general. I'll probably sue it for ALL of my drawings, human or not. It just... looks cool. Same with dark scalera, though it does make the eyes look really good imo.
Uhhhj.... Advisor/Court Life Au facts? I guess?
More a yapfest under here. Lmao, soulless please correct me on some of this if you want.
- Orgeat is the Advisor to Pure Vanilla and reads his paperwork to him sometimes. Mostly because Pure Vanilla doesn't have his staff here, so he relies on Orgeat to read the more... finer letters (cursive)
- matching clothing constantly, but contrasting colours. Pure Vanilla in a blue shirt and black trousers? Orgeat has black shirt and blue trousers. So and and so forth.
- Orgeat is technically a normal Cookie with no rank — but! Comes from a family of knights and cardinals. He's the first Royal Advisor that came from that family. Most if the time the Advisor's are from the nobles, but he was picked by Pure Vanilla.
- Advisor Au is technically more modern but with fantasy elements. Think... uh, I don't know. There's kingdoms and also you can buy a phone. Magic!
- lmao I actually thought some stuff out, and I'm self-indulgent, so there's a few OCs running around. Yes, my ocs. Three of them are the maids in the castle and are the reason Orvanilla got together here.
- Orgeat was an Advisor before a husband, and he only even knew the king loved him back was by three very maniacal maids who were SO OVER the mutual pining that had been going on for a few years now. When I say pining, I MEAN pining. It was cringey for everyone involved. EVERYONE KNEW IT. The nobles (except the custards) were banding together just to abolish the rule that monarchy can only marry nobles JUST so those two would stop pining. It was that bad.
- how did the maids do it? Two literally cornered Orgeat while the third ran off to Pure Vanilla. And locked them into the same room while yelling "JUST GET MARRIED PLEASE WE CANT TAKE THIS EVEN THE NOBLES KNOW Y'ALL ARE INLOVE". When it was announced the two were getting married everyone rejoiced.
- this does mean LucidFount exists here. I'm too much of a freak to not add those two into this AU. Fount is a very important Duke far off in another kingdom, and Lucid is a Apothecary in Pure Vanilla's Kingdom. (Forbidden love your honour.) Sometimes Fount sends over letters to ask for a very specific Apothecary in Pure Vanilla's kingdom to supply herbs and such.
- okay, so. Since in my whole... self ship thing that Lucid is basically related to Pure Vanilla (which, i think is very funny shut up), this does mean its canon here. Lucid is like, a cousin once removed and DOES NOT care for what is going on. Let them live their life being an Apothecary. Gave up the chance for the crown so they can wig out over herbs. (Ironically, my second option for Lucid's job over Shepard was Apothecary. So.)
- Pure Vanilla and Lucid are like... distant friends? Lmao, Pure Vanilla doesn't really have any living relatives except for the custards who are his cousins and Lucid, who's just. Lucid. (Pure Vanilla would rather deal with whatever Lucid has with Fount then Elder Custard. Lucid is the favourite cousin by default.)
- yeah PV has a small royal family. It's him in direct line, followed by Lucid, and then the custards. Yes, he's related to the custards. For plot I swear. The custards (specifically Elder Custard) are, well, themselves. Lucid is the family favourite on default. (Lmao, sorry, I just really hate Elder Custard. So much. Pure Vanilla wouldn't exactly hate him, but, uh, he wouldn't like him either. EC is like that scheming royal family member I swear.)

Pure Vanilla was always a giver.
It was something wholly woven into the fabric of his very being—he was a guardian, a giver, a provider, especially so when it came to his loved and cherished ones. Many healers like him would also regard themselves similarly. It was simply in the nature of healers; to cure aches and wounds, one must be willing to provide.
When it came to his spousa of all people, Pure Vanilla was more than eager to provide him with meaningful and lovingly-thought-out experiences. Introducing Orgeat to his closest companions, though they had yet to fully warm up to the one their leader loved so dearly, was only one of the many ways he gave—by carving a permanent space in his life, specifically for Orgeat, next to the rest of those he cherished.
He also, of course, had debatably less intricate means of providing for the man he was honored to call his husband-to-be.
(Though, then again, one might argue otherwise. All of Pure Vanilla's gestures would seem equally full of thought, romance, and effort, because that was simply the type of person he was.)
Trees, packed densely together, seemed to stretch on almost infinitely, parted only by a dirt road presumably created by little more than the foot traffic of passers-by. The chaos of the world seemed to disappear behind the Ancient Hero and his fiancé as they strolled along the path, blooming flowers of vibrant reds and pinks dotted sporadically along its borders. The distant chittering of animals came from the surrounding areas, carried on the wind much like a melody in a calming song.
"My friends and I spent much of our time here in our youths," Pure Vanilla mused, a gentle smile adorning his features as his gaze drifted across the surrounding scenery. "Getting into trouble like the young adventurers we once were. Things of that sort."
Orgeat listened intently, mirroring Pure Vanilla's smile. He squeezed the hero's hand in his, almost as a reassurance that he was listening or an encouragement to go on, or perhaps it was nothing more than an excuse to get to hold his fiancé's hand more tightly as his thumb dragged slowly over Pure Vanilla's knuckles.
"I should hope we won't run into any such trouble."
Dancing in Orgeat's tone was the ghost of a light tease, and his lover could only chuckle amusedly.
"I should hope not," the Ancient Hero agreed, "but it has been known to be more peaceful these days. It was so long ago, after all. This place has changed."
Something wistful bloomed in Pure Vanilla's voice as he recalled the thrills of his youth with his companions. It was gentle and faint, little more more than a distant whisper among the more prominent tones of his soothing voice. The forest clearly held many dear memories for him—that was more than blatant. Perhaps some among those memories were not quite so dear or fond, based on the slight shift in Pure Vanilla's expression as he continued to reminisce.
Orgeat hummed, squeezing his husband's hand again. This time, it was a reassurance, a reminder grounding his loved one to the present. "For the better, it seems…"
His husband smiled. Pure Vanilla softly lifted Orgeat's hand and pressed a tender kiss on his knuckles, stalling for a brief moment to merely bask in the comforting sensation of his partner's skin against his. A soft, slow breath left Orgeat. He paused for a moment—a brief flicker of hesitation and contemplation—before leaning into his fiancé's warming affection.
"For the better," Pure Vanilla finally confirmed, nodding softly.
Only after a brief moment of tranquil silence did Pure Vanilla lower Orgeat's hand and continue to lead him down the path.
Pale lavender-blue eyes drifted across the two's surroundings, admiring the delicate yet immensely peaceful balance that nature had found in such a place that Pure Vanilla himself admitted was one more chaotic and wild. It truly did seem as if the world did not exist beyond this thick cluster of trees, like the forest was contained in its own little bubble of serenity and quiet, forever banishing the mayhem from its bounds.
A bird's song caught his attention, the sound rapidly drawing closer and closer.
It originated from a tiny bird, feathers as blue as the midday sky, chirping melodiously as it circled Orgeat's partner. The animal seemed to be naturally drawn in by what could only be described as an invisible force that the man radiated, a kindness and compassion that melted away any suspicion or fear. Pure Vanilla smiled kindly, holding out his freehand for the bird to perch on. It continued its song as it accepted his wordless invitation, settling on his hand, almost seeming intent on resting there for a few moments.
Pure Vanilla turned towards Orgeat, drawing the bird ever-so slightly closer to his body as he did, glancing at his spouse.
Something, then, seemed to startle the bird, feathers rustling and song growing frantic before meeting an abrupt end as it fluttered off into the leaves beyond sight. The Ancient Hero paused, lips tilting downwards slightly into a frown tinged with both regret and disappointment.
"…I'm sorry, my love," Pure Vanilla said softly, following the path the bird used to flee with his eyes.
"It's okay," Orgeat reassured, leaning forward to press a kiss onto his temple. "It isn't your fault. We should keep walking."
His husband hummed, heterochromatic eyes flicking away from the bird's path and upwards to the small slivers of the sky he could catch between the canopy of green leaves and deep brown branches hanging overhead. Its blue hue was gradually shifting into something deeper and more colorful—swirling shades of glowing orange and vibrant pink, evidencing the lazy approach of the evening.
"Yes," he eventually agreed, "before the evening passes… I would like you to see this place during sunset. It is beautiful."
The walk continued on in a comfortable silence, save for the distant rustling of leaves and crunching of grass under the feet of various woodland animals. Eventually, the thick line of trees began to thin, before parting entirely.
Through the natural arch formed by the intertwined branches of trees was a field.
'Beautiful' was a sore understatement. Breathtaking was infinitely more accurate.
The forest gave way to reveal a field, wildflowers gathered in vibrantly colorful patches in the grass, richly green and clearly thriving. Butterflies fluttered around the duo as Pure Vanilla led his husband-to-be into the meadow, startled briefly by their sudden appearance before settling back onto the flowers they were taking nectar from.
Golden-orange sunlight bathed the clearing in its warmth. filtering through the fluffy clouds lazily drifting across the sky. The entire field seemed to glow under the sun's nurturing.
"Oh!" Orgeat gasped, awestruck as he absorbed the sight before him. "It's..!"
"Beautiful, isn't it?" his fiancé continued for him, beginning to tuck his legs underneath himself to sit. He guided Orgeat to sit, the grass surprisingly pillowy and proving to be a sufficient enough cushion on its own, as well. Pure Vanilla smiled again, releasing a breath once he was comfortably settled. "I always loved this place."
Orgeat nodded. "I can see why. It's so peaceful."
"Indeed."
The Ancient Hero glanced at his side. A patch of wildflowers was immediately to his left, hues of blue and purple mixing with one another, and his eyes lit up. He reached over, working one flower out of the ground with a careful grip, careful as to not harm or disturb the surrounding flora. Then, he turned to Orgeat.
Before the other man had a chance to react, Pure Vanilla reached over and tucked the flower behind his ear, adjusting it to his liking. His hand drifted down to tenderly caress his fiancé's face.
(Whose face had since grown incredibly warm with a blend of fondness and sheepish embarrassment, but the gesture from his husband-to-be was appreciated nevertheless. It wasn't bad—never!—but rather a little… overwhelming, perhaps.)
"There you are, my dear," the hero said, smile growing soft and thoughtful as he committed the image of his partner to memory. "You are so, so beautiful."
"T—" Orgeat stumbled, lifting one of his hands to cup the hand pressed against his face. He cleared his throat and tried again, smiling into Pure Vanilla's hand and pressing a kiss to his palm. "Thank you… but you do as well, as always."
The hero's thumb ran softly across Orgeat's cheekbone a few times. A comfortable silence settled again.
With the golden sunlight bathing him and his partner in its affectionate warmth, Pure Vanilla leaned forward, pressing a kiss to his fiancé's lips, chaste and overwhelmingly tender as most things he did tended to be. His freehand reached out, fingers intertwining with those of Orgeat's own freehand.
For a moment, the world stilled, and all that existed was the two of them, each simply lingering and basking in the closeness.
Then, Orgeat withdrew, though he remained close. He squeezed his partner's hand. With the other, he gingerly took a lock of Pure Vanilla's hair, beginning inquisitively: "May I...?"
"Oh!" Pure Vanilla gasped, expression brightening. "Of course."
The Ancient Hero shifted, sitting on his knees again, this time with his back to Orgeat.
Tender hands began to thread flowers of various colors into the hero's hair, the world stilled once again, serene, if only for just this moment.
