“If birds can glide for long periods of time, then why can’t I?” -Orville Wright I don’t know what bird Orville Wright was watching but it could very well have been a Raven. I have frequently thought something similar as I watched Ravens surf the sky. They are particularly impressive when the wind is blowing. They can surf sky, while seemingly coming to a standstill, before changing directions. They can subtly adjust their wings and tail feathers to adjust their position in the sky. It reminds me of the adjustments you make while sailing to tack into the wind or opening the sail to sail with the wind. Ravens are impressive as the sail or surf the sky. It is easy to imagine how the Wright Brothers gained inspiration from the flying skills of ravens, large birds of prey and long distance champions like Condors or Albatrosses. #Quote #OrvilleWright #Flight #Ravens #RavenInFlight #Corvids #TheMiracleOfFlight #Birds #Bird #BirdPhotography #Birding #BirdingPhotography #Naturalist #PhotoByJeriRs (at Santa Fe, New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/CctXyAwvHb4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Wright Brother's Day !
Wright Brother's Day !
December 17
The Wright Brothers achieved the first powered flight ever demonstrated in history on this day in 1903. Despite the flight only lasting a few seconds, they were still charged a baggage fee.
The Wright brothers – #Orville (August 19, 1871 – January 30, 1948) and #Wilbur (April 16, 1867 – May 30, 1912) – were two American aviation pioneers generally credited with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane. They made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air aircraft with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903, 4 mi (6 km) south of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. In 1904–05, the brothers developed their flying machine to make longer-running and more aerodynamic flights with the Wright Flyer II, followed by the first truly practical fixed-wing aircraft, the Wright Flyer III. The Wright brothers were also the first to invent aircraft controls that made fixed-wing powered flight possible. ✳️🌟✳️🌟✳️🌟✳️🌟✳️ https://www.amazon.com/Wright-Brothers-Notebook-Journal-Diary/dp/B087646CZ9/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=lucanus+wright&qid=1589992757&sr=8-7 ✳️🌟✳️🌟✳️🌟✳️🌟✳️ #thewrightbrothers #orvillewright #wilburwright #Lucanus #famous #people #notebook #amazon #person #diary #journal #goodreads https://www.instagram.com/p/CAarG11gk8Y/?igshid=433iqnbznw5r
