WELL WHADDAYA KNOW. I’VE HAD THIS THING ON MY COMPUTER SINCE SEPTEMBER OR SO AND HAVEN’T POSTED IT YET. What a -SHAME-.
This here is a ref for an original species of mine that I’m going to use in both the Myriaverses setting and my Troll colony of Nu-Badill!
(Note: You’re free to reference these menaces in your own Fantroll RPs. Just don’t make adopts of them or anything like that and let me peek if you draw some, okay? Thanks!)
Alba Ludicro, as they’re called by Alternian scientists, are exactly what they say on the tin - “white mimics”. Though not native to Nu-Badill or any other neighboring colonies, the Alba Ludicro has found a niche imitating highblood troll lusi both for their own protection, and to allow them to more easily live amongst trolls and pick them off from the fringes of society when they’re hungry.
They’ll try to find an isolated troll, get as close as possible, and then stab them with their highly venomous and sharp tongue. This venom is paralytic and extremely fast-acting, making escape nearly impossible once pierced for any troll below blue. Even if their victim did manage to dodge the strike or keep moving after being stung, the hide of the Alba Ludicro is extremely tough and elastic; some have attempted to study this property, as the exact proteins (if they’re even proteins) involved are unknown and could be of great use to modern biotech.
Once they’ve swallowed their prey whole, these beasts will retire to secluded caves and ditches to digest in peace. After about a week, the Alba Ludicro will cough up something like an owl pellet that consists of anything indigestible, such as course hair and troll horns.
The Alba Ludicro reaches maturity at about five sweeps or ten human years. Nobody has witnessed their mating habits, but it is known that they give birth to a single, long, nasty grub that can be as long as four feet. They’re left to fend for themselves, eating detritus and corpses off of the forest floor. Given enough food and time, they’ll quickly start to produce their own toxins and pupate into a sub-adult shortly afterwards.
Fun Fact!: Though the grubs don’t taste particularly good at first, there’s a brief window of time between them being at maximum size and them pupating in which there’s so little of the toxin that it actually becomes an addictive flavoring agent without it being overtly poisonous. Some trolls will pay top-caegar for others to find, catch, and prepare these rare delicacies WITHOUT getting themselves killed in deep Alba Ludicro territory. Of course, much like the dish fugu, there’s a very real chance that the flesh could already be too toxic to eat by the time the grub is killed and served.
Considering this, most “Ludu” aficionados die sooner or later because of their dangerous diet.
... They are not good pets.
