#osap overpayment

Hi, I dropped a winter semester course recently (Jan18th) that OSAP has already paid for. If I request a refund, will the money be given back to OSAP? as it says here "York is required by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to send all/part of the refund directly to your lending institution." or do I not need to request a refund and York does it automatically? Thanks

York should send it automatically, however I encourage you to keep an eye on it. It might be faster to request the refund and send it back to OSAP yourself, however I recommend double checking with Financial Services if you are concerned.

When I applied for Osap i had 30 credits, but in the fall term i dropped a 9 credit course so before Osap released my winter funding I had 21 credits. now in the winter term i've dropped another 6 credit course and I am left with 15 credits. If i'm correct this leaves me in an overpayment situation with OSAP, I'm just wondering what happens in an overpayment situation and where does this leave me if I plan on taking classes in the summer.

You’re only in an overpayment situation if OSAP says you are. If you’ve been informing OSAP about these changes you may not be considered in overpayment.

if osap gave you too much money (more than once) do they ask for money back asap or at the end of the year?

If there’s an overpayment situation, then yes you must pay back OSAP asap, especially to be eligible for future student.

hi guys, i'm a first year and i was planning on dropping one of my courses since i'm not doing well, but dropping it would make me a part-time student. what sort of implications would it have being a part-time student regards to osap, etc.? thanks!

You would be in an overpayment situation and your OSAP would have to be reassessed if you were a part-time student. I would definitely recommend against it if at all possible because it would complicate OSAP a lot.

do i get an overpayment when i fail a class?

I don’t think this will necessary be an overpayment situation, as long as you’re still enrolled as a full-time student, but you will be put on academic probation and have to fill out the letter and forms associated with that.
