The Stars: BFDIA's favourite characters (/s)

Tumblr you'll have to excuse me but I'm in a big yapping mode today. Once I start writing, I can't stop. Anyway.

On the note of bfdia analysis, today, I want to talk about another set of characters that I keep rotating in my mind at high-speeds (/pos): The Stars.

When I first watched BFDIA 15, I thought they were a funny team. However, the more I thought about them, the more patterns I noticed. This lineup wasn't a coincidence: all of them are the underdogs of the competition.

All of them have faced mistreatment, oppression, and were belittled by the rest of the contestants due to their personalities. Pin, seeking to voice up her concern for her teammates' wellbeing and, most importantly, herself, was constantly shut down. Book was treated as inferior all the time in Freesmart, a behaviour she did not recognise and mistook for friendship. And then, we have Nickel, who spent the entire competition being left behind and alone because nobody liked him.

Whether they like it or not, none of them fit in. And they deal with it in entirely opposite ways.

Firstly, let's focus on Pin -- the most radical example. After regaining her mobility and senses, she swore to make everyone who had wronged her (ie: the entire cast) get a taste of their own medicine. She wanted them to see how bad she was suffering because of their actions. So, she couldn't keep up her facade of complicity any longer. She began tearing down her relationships and dreams, all in pursuit of power. A power that, if she were to win it, would show the rest that, despite everything, she's just as capable of winning -- if not more -- as they are. That would show them how wrong they were. On the other hand, if everything went astray, she'd at least try to take everyone down with her (wink wink reference to oomfs).

Secondly, there's Book. While Book and Nickel are both pretty passive when it comes to facing this issue, I'm choosing to focus on Book first (you'll see why later). When it comes to BFDIA (well, I think it can be also applied to BFB), Book is Pin's polar opposite. They're foils to each other: instead of showing the world its wrongs, Book is dedicated to show it kindness, time and time again. No matter how bad it gets, she will always do the right thing, since that's how she believes things will get better -- not only for her, but for her friends as well. For example, she gives out advice to Tennis Ball in BFDIA 21 because she doesn't want him or Needle getting the lower end of the stick. She just wants everyone to get along, in order to stop injustices -- such as what happened to Pin -- from taking place again.

It is well-known that Pin and Book are opposite sides of the spectrum, alike yet different. But there's one part of the equation often overlooked, and I'm here to cast some light on it:

Nickel.

He is also ostracised by the cast, even though it's usually played for comedic effect. However, that doesn't take away the seriousness of the issue: it's implied that he feels bad about it. After all, why does he latch onto TB like a puppy? (Bear with me here, since I'm beginning to speculate more, as we don't know much about his true character.) Anyway, I think that's because he doesn't want to be alone anymore. In spite of making useful contributions to his team (see: BFDIA 6 - 9), he still is cast aside! So, his only way to deal with this loneliness is to try to make up for his lack of usefulness. That could explain his personality change from pre to post-revival BFDIA, going from a pessimistic to a happy-go-lucky outlook in life, which could finally make him likeable to others. Usefulness is further remarked in his relationship with TB: he is always looking for a way to please him, so as to not make him leave his side (which is. Heartbreaking). Therefore, we can say that he deals with mistreatment by trying to prove the cast wrong, without resorting to violence. Now that I think about it, it's kind of a mix between Book and Pin's behaviours.

Taking all of this into account, they have SO MUCH potential for interesting interactions, especially in IDFB. It's a shame that they don't interact much (as a trio) in later seasons, because they KNOW!!! THEY COULD UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER!!!! they know what it's like to be messed around and tossed aside all the time. And yet, they have overcome those situations, partly because they got the opportunity to turn over a new leaf and meet new people. New people that actually cared for them, and valued them for who they really are.

On a side note, if Pin is the heroic leader and Book is the heroic protector, may I suggest making Nickel the heroic companion? He's always ready to give it all out for his teammates. Consequently, he is quite mad when his efforts go unnoticed or when something's unfair. For example, in his elimination, he recognises Pillow as the threat. Why is he getting out, if Pillow was the one who caused the team's downfall?

TLDR; Pin, Book and Nickel should be a friend group in uhhh bfdi season 6 🔥🔥🔥 Book is the friend both Pin and Nickel need. I love these silly guys. Also I hope I made you, the reader, reflect more on (some of) these characters -- especially Nickel. I think he's full of potential. As I've mentioned before, we don't know his change of heart, so there's still a lot of his character left for spectulation. Hopefully, IDFB is able to explore his character further.

And an improvement note, I now fours characters has been proven to be canonically autistic however this format is to just point out as to why he may be this way

An honest four analysis:

Throughout bfdi, four, the host of season four, is shown to be a "control freak" and "chaotic" as shown a lot through pre split.

Including times where he literally amalgamated pin infornt of the contestants in the first episode with a blank smile. Also including torturing gelatin in BFB 3 expect with a more pleasant looking smile.

- FOURS RELATIONSHIP WITH POWER

But why does he do this? In bfb one where he kill spin when first meeting the contestants there's a certain pause after his sentence. As he's expecting some sort of "wow" moment from the contestants but only getting disdain in return.

But isn't death to algebraliens a lot more taboo to them? So why does he react in this way as he adds on "pretty cool huh?" Yet as coint begs he stays looking at the contestants.

Thus starting to see death more as a comedy gag? And heck, maybe even as a way to play around or joke lightheartedly since murder is also played as a joke in bfdi season one.

But this isn't blocky or flower doing this as the contestants are used to. This is a literal alien they dont know about disfiguring their friend infornt of their eyes, even if that friend happend to be a stranger in some of the others eyes.

- FOURS INTERACTIONS WITH X AND DORA

When donut asks "so what do you wnat murder?" and taco joins in right after he just screeches at them. This may be because as according to the wiki he screeches whenver feeling extreme emotion. So what he felt in that moment was either excitement that he finally got to be in bfdi, or a mix of emotions covered by a monotone state like overhwlem or dissapointment that he want met with awe at his alien pressence, as if imitating the announcer.

Even when X insists to say to stop screeching as he says "no more screeches please" four screeches at X. I think this may be just how four generally treats X even before the show, despite this X most likely probably felt unfair but shoved their feelings aside for four but ill get onto thay for later.

Yet when Dora comes in and yaps to him he agrees right off the bat and revives her. But why? Let's consider one factor, they are both non objects in a place filled with them! And calling in the fact that David was the only representation of non objectian probably made four feel seen when they were watching bfdi back then, so they return the favor to make dora feel heard back, there's no immense favoritism though, just simple respect and communication

Yet in that moment one of the first rare times we see four agreeing and communicating woth someone who's "less powerful" than him

- FOURS DESTRUCTION

For now focusing on the bfb 3 scene where four TORTURES gelatin, right after gelatin didn't mean to pick at four and originally at the others. And when four asks and the others blame gelatin for it, four immediately believes them and pushes to the extreme of zapping gelatin.

The fact he did it all eith a cheerful demeanor too says a lot about him! But what does this say about his character, especially as a first impression on the viewer? And how does he even view the contestants?

Perhaps the reason on why four immidetaly jumped to conclusions can come off them as impulsive and thinks with their fists rather than brains. The fact they didn't look to see any evidence or even let gelatin off with a warning tells that four is VERY destructive in nature

This also happens on BFB 6 as four zapping stapy after killing foldy on his first instinct, this zapping isn't just zapping its a way of playing for four at this point because of his desire to be an entertaining host like the announcer, the same announcer that made him love bfdi.

This is the point where four pushes the contestants to literally kill him THEMSELVES

- SYMBOLSIM BEHIND THE EXIT

But despite the seemingly intense plan, the tone of the scene changes as it goes to the elimination as its more lighthearted and easy going with four literally saying "youll get poo pooed" which can generally comes off as cringy/Corny yet also a unsettling as he was literally confining the fact that he meant that he was going to the exit during the time which Is loteral social isolation for "eternity"

Was it too de escalate the severe mental pain of the exit? As in BFB 3 Ballon describes the exit and four says "you arent supposed to know that" in a stern tone, was it because if the secret of the actual elimination process was let out the contesnats wouldn't compete at all?

He hid his "secret" of his because he knew it would be devastating to the others, he knew it would break them for his own satisfaction and pursuit of his daydreams, it was his selfish desires in full throttle, that in the exit the was where not his cruelty but his loneliness resides the most

The fact he almost has no one other than X to the point of making them stay in his pokcet dimensioi he would be alone with his thoughts and that he'd be able to cope with his own internal struggles there by obsessing over math because of the possibly dull dread over suffering from the consequences weighing on his shoulders from practically playing with the contesnats exisitnece, especially with BFB 6 and the contesnats multiplying him with donut that acted as a zero

- FOURS REACTION TO CRITICISM

Alas in BFB 4 which built up to BFB 6 possibly as four later calls nickel an object and nickel goes "are you objectifying me?" Four get passed off in a flat second and says "I dont like criticism" and does that same hand position for zapping

Now from this, four sees criticism as striaght up hate, sure nickles comment was a bit contradictory and a bit of a hypocritical pun. Four took it like an insult, yet it was more of a question

Does four hate being perceived for his true flaws?

People who dont accept criticism or cant handle it often have a hard time improving in the long run (and it'll bite four back in the future). This is especially common with artists as four is an artist in a way through his hosting

- FOUR AS AN INSECURE ARTIST

And because he didn't accept this "critism" and consider the others feelings he puts his feelings first, and this ties back into BFB 4 where he literally made a challenge all about making art for him and only him (no this does not mena he's selfish but shamelessly self centered, rather than waiting for genuine apprection and trustung in their own intristic motivation rather deoends on external validation from others to fuel their passion, he also makes another challange like this in BFB 24 except the results were much worse)

Thus, so far from the information we have it is clear thay in the start. Four is a character that chooses fleeting pleasures over true freedom of admitting your faults because he simply does not have the mental strength to admit to them (yet) because it would put him in a vulnerable the same way he did the same to the contesnats, his choices are not only fueled by the aderl8ne fo power trips but also a fear of them "not playing along" anymore and a fear of being in a dangerous spot emotionally that will take a toll on him and his clear perosna of this wacky host persone would shatter

most likely due to him having a form of insecurity over his "weird" tendencies and that he has self doubts if he would ever still be loved despite the hurt and uncomfort he spat out in an act of desperate cry for a shout out on how "cool" and "good of a host he is" and that his goofynes balances out his mistakes, no, wrongful actions that he keeps spirling himself secretly into as a way of self acceptance as if saying to himself that there's no turning back from his state

i am so thinking abt how tpot pencil and bfdia pin parellel each other, they both feel so isolated from others '

Both were leaders of the respective teams/alliances who lost that one way or another

pin with only having Coiny as someone who cares abt her to the point where when WOAH Bunch was split up she focuses more on herself and winning after going through everything with losing her face, her limbs, and her size she now is just focused on... making sure she wins to the point where didn't help Coiny up and brutally murdered book

and pencil with everyone she was close too either being gone or wanting nothing to do with her so she sacrifices her current team (or even the world) to try and secure the win and avoid being isolated again after already being isolated from the outside world for YEARS ignoring those trying to reach out to her

both of them go through a incredibly traumatic experiences and both of them do anything in their power not to be put in a situation Like That ever again and end up hurting the people around them because of it

Thinking about. Donut and Pin parallels... what if Pin was the one who showed Donut kindness before anyone else. What if she saw herself in him -- rather than that, the person she used to be? Full of rage, imperative and impatient; yet striving to lead the rest. Someone whose interests swing between wanting to gurantee victory for themselves and wanting to do so for others. And, despite all of that, they come across the wrong way, which leaves them alone. Ostracised from the rest.

Said loneliness only further fuels that hatred.

Nevertheless, the cycle of kindness repeats itself. Pin was shown the error in her ways, and now it's time for her to do so to someone else. She'd finally be the heroic leader someone needs.

Maybe that would be her first step into improving her self-esteem, whereas it'd be Donut's push to express his worries in a different way.

There are PLENTY of possibilities in IDFB, I'm thrilled to explore them and see what jnj get up to.

hello my dear friend clover! i know we talk a lot but ive been throwing around a more formal thought in my head and i wanted to hear your thoughts on it…

with bfdia approaching its finale, book has good odds of becoming a finalist and even winning the season… i ask you! how would you say her hypothetically winning would impact her character and development in bfb and beyond? its weird to think about as theres the black box of idfb we dont know what happens in but

what comes to mind immediately is she wins by being kind… if she doesnt need to end up standing up for herself, this could contribute to her being more emotionally reliant on freesmart in idfb, which sets up for the eventual fallout which leads her to not wanna join iance in bfb. however! if she instead has some big huge crashout moment where she wins by taking whats hers (please… book moment…) i could see this sewing the seeds for not only her leaving freesmart but her anger towards taco..

alternatively i saw a lot of people throwing around the theory that similar to season 1, the prize would be stolen or lost in some way, presumebly by leafy. despite it being a random patch of farmland in goiky, i could see this being her justification for her overprotectiveness of ice cube! she knows there are bad people who betray ESPECIALLY one of ice cube’s old friends… she feels wronged both by freesmart and others which would send her into super overprotect mode basically

Hi my dear friend Berry!!! Firstly, thank you SOSO much for this ask... This is the perfect opportunity to yap about Book BFDI /silly especially after the rollercoaster that was BFDIA 22(at least, for me).

With Book being on the verge of elimination, I think there couldn't be a better time to voice my thoughts than now. Take this as a sort of essay on why Book should win, if you would.

As we all know, she was a lost cause from the get-go of the challenge. She gave up winning to do what she considered right, which was aiding TB with destroying the friendship flags. But why? It's all because of her moral code. She firmly believes that doing the right thing is the way to go; not only in the game, but also as regards her own life. She's always giving, giving, and giving, because it's what she likes. What she chooses to do. That way, she is building a better world for her and for her friends. No ulterior motives here: Book firmly believes in the power of friendship as the way to overcome all challenges. Hence why she is so opposed to Leafy's idea of the contest (remember that she doesn't know what she went through in BFDI): she is only willing to receive, without giving anything in exchange. And for Book, that's outright abusive. From my point of view, situations like this are what later drive her to go full-on protective mode (especially of Icy). Some people just want to take advantage of her niceness or of her friends. She has to stand up for them, she has to protect them, and, in doing so, show the perpetrator the mistake in their ways. This is the main argument that drives me to vote for her (emphasis on me), because we need more people like her irl. I aspire to be like her, in that sense.

But what about the impact on her character? Well, as you said, there are two ways to go:

Book wins without having a crash-out or anything of the like, she just keeps up her usual playing style. This would prove the power of her kindness and resilience. It doesn't seem likely that she accomplishes her goal of uniting the cast, but, at least, I think they'd recognise the power of her actions (some characters more than others). On one hand, this might make her more reliant in Freesmart (something I had never thought about!), but, at the same time, it'd make her more confident in herself. She was able to win by being kind to everyone, right? So, in her benevolent gestures, she might find that same compassion reciprocated somewhere else, somewhere outside of Freesmart. That would make her realise how messed up her friend group actually is. There are clear signs of this before IDFB (the hierarchy between the members is enough of a sign), and I only expect it to get worse during said season. Plus, I believe that, during IDFB, no matter how things turn out, Book will slowly become more aware of her self-worth. The reason why the realisation that she had been a horrible friend to Icy hit so hard for her is that she had had strongly cemented the idea that she was good. No evil could come out of her actions, right? Yet, in BFDIA, she seems unsure of this. Hell, in BFDIA 11, one of her pages read that she is having an identity crisis over what she is. In spite of this referring to what type of book she is, it ties with the fact that she doesn't know who she is. Therefore, something must have happened in IDFB that made her gain confidence in herself and redact her own definition. And what better first step towards it that winning Dream Island, due to her good-natured behaviour?

Book has a crash-out or calls out the other contestants' misdoings. Frankly, I root for this to happen, but it wouldn't be so coherent with her character; at least, not yet. Even though she's 100% sure she's playing the game right and isn't willing to change that, she isn't sure enough of herself to call the others out. Moreso if Needle still is in the running. She sometimes is nice to Book; said bond led her to win the immunity ticket last contest. So why would Book treat her like another wrong-doer, when she did nothing wrong to her? Besides, I feel like Book would first try to befriend Coiny, and then reinforce her bond with TB. Now, with the episode ending on such a sour note for her (note that she calls TB a villain!), I can see it giving rise for a crashout with him. She helps him, and then what? He harms others to boost his odds at safety, going against the rules of the contract she told him not to go against, because it'd get back to him? He is taking advantage of the rest, something she swore to go against. Anyway, I don't think it's too likely, because she still firmly believes in the power of friendship over anything. And because JNJ like to mess with us. However, it'd be a nice nod to her future fallout with Pencil. Actually, she has to gain that confidence from somewhere, am I right? And it all comes back to my previous point:

Book needs to win BFDIA to see her own worth.

She needs to see the weight of her accomplishments, the weight of her kindness, her resilience, her determination; she needs to start differentiating true friends from fake ones; she needs to see that she cannot be thrown aside like she how she is being treated right now.

And you may say that this same event can happen outside of BFDIA -- which, as of right now, is the most likely outcome, seeing as she's being pitted with two of the most popular characters in the entire series --, and it's true. It's true. Maybe Icy can call Freesmart out first, and then Book would follow. But, with the amount of times she was the first to dive into danger for her friends, do you think there's something as good as making her the winner of the season for her to start standing up for herself? (rhetorical question moment)

As a bonus, I'd like to briefly analyse how winning BFDIA would impact each of the other finalists' arcs:

If Coiny wins: nothing will happen. Coiny is at peace right now, and there are no visible differences between his BFDIA and BFB-TPOT self. You could argue that he is more sensible towards Pin, but that doesn't have anything to do with winning BFDIA. I'm not saying that you suck for rooting for him, and I respect that you like him, but he doesn't actually need the prize. At least, not as much as any of the others.

If Needle wins: it'd be nice. It'd pay off all of her hard work and sound ideology. However, it... isn't brought up again in future seasons. As I mentioned in another post, that's my main issue with Needle winning BFDIA. We don't get to see the rewards of her labor ever again. In fact, it seems as if she regressed in IDFB, as she doesn't mind being called a WOAH Buncher in future seasons. Knowing that will happen, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Personally, I don't think it's worth it. I admire you, though, Needle enjoyers, for sticking for her.

If TB wins: his ego will go through the roof and the sky. Something MAJOR has to happen in IDFB for him to go back to his calm and quiet self. Sure, anything can happen in IDFB, but it's... quite the ambitious project you've got there. Plus, it validates all of his neglectful behaviour towards his friends x/

I'm not saying that you shouldn't vote for your favourites. In my opinion, no finale will be as satisfactory and coherent as Book winning. Her kindness is remarkable, and she's such an interesting character to watch throughout the seasons. She undergoes major growth in IDFB, and I think that winning BFDIA can be the first step towards that. Right now, I'm really, really hoping she makes it through. For me, there isn't anything more honorable than sticking to your own convictions and trying again, again and again, in spite of the world laughing at your face and deciding to screw you time and time again. Book is the embodiment of that. It will be so satisfying, for her and the viewers alike, to see that paying off. If you don't know who to vote for, I'd appreciate it if you took this analysis into consideration.

Thank you for taking your time to read this. I hope that this analysis might have given you another look at Book's character, which many find boring this season. To me, you have to look at the bigger picture in order to get her, but that's for another time.

My thoughts on Needle (small analysis)

Ok, I've been meaning to talk about Needle for a while. More specifically, her characterization in BFDIA and how it correlates to the rest of the character. It's been bugging me for quite a while, so let's get down to it.

When the team dilemma had been first introduced, I thought it was an interesting spin on her character. Over time, I started to get this feeling that something was not quite right (andthatshewasstealingthespotlightfrombookbutshhhwe'releavingbiasaside). And I think I've finally landed on what caused that:

The fact that all of that development goes down the drain once bfb starts.

Needle, the character that longed for independence and had finally achieved it, after being tossed around for so long, joins the team where they all rely on a single person to do everything: The Losers. Where they are all extremely dependent on Loser, so willing to trust him blindly that it doesn't matter if it goes against common sense.

Worst of all, she isn't the one who tries to point out this problem to the rest of the team: it's Pin! While Pin does know how it feels to comply to others' wishes (see: BFDIA 1 - 5), she wasn't the one who was constantly abiding by others' orders; it was Needle!

Regardless of who spoke up to the rest of the team, my point is that Needle's character is quite incongruous to me. I'm not trying to say that she's a bad character -- I just feel like she isn't handled well. At all. It's difficult to write a character often portrayed as a joke, moreso when you know how their story is going to play out. I understand that, if they wanted her to gain more relevance, they'd have to do something unexpected. However, the fact that it's never going to be brought up again in future seasons upsets me. I hope that we can see some of her BFDIA character in the One subspace subplot.
