1965?
Fake cel I made based on a screenshot in a newspaper clipping about Fight! Osper/戦え!オスパー for a friend. I thought about it on the basis if Eiken or Sunrise did the show in say 1975.
so fucked up
After a catastrophe destroyed their continent, the inhabitants of Mu adapted to living in the ocean in cities covered by huge domes. After m
The first 3 chapters of Tatake! Osper have been translated in english! created by Koichi Yamano and Takashi Ina, look forward to more chapters coming later!
The 1960's inspiration to Dragon Ball?! 戦え!オスパー "Fight! Osper"
A groundbreaking 1965 anine, about the Lost Continent Mu's descendants in domed cities having a psychic battle tournament, won by the teleporting ki blasting hero. Widows-peak toting bitter 2nd placer Drome swears revenge, but in the end acknowledges Osper as the stronger.
Screenshots from the 1965 intro. The rest of the series is considered lost media but some episodes have resurfaced and being restored.
Osper's ki blast is what becomes Piccolo's 魔貫光殺砲 Makankōsappō, lit. "Demon's Penetrating, Killing Light Gun"!! Villain Dromu already has his spikey raised kabuki demon hair.... which makes this a direct influence on AKIRA ( Katsuhiro Otomo ) Tetsuo psychic battles too!!
戦え!オスパー "Fight! Osper" Volume 1 shows the Mu psychic battle tournament. Also credited as the first Japanese anime to have psychic powers as the theme.

Yehaaaa osper sweep
Fight! Osper is such an interesting anime to me. It's entirely lost except for one episode discovered THIS YEAR and unlike other lost 60s anime made around that time it seemed to be rather popular, not only having 53 episodes over the course of 2 years but also being one of the first anime to do recaps and also basically lay the groundwork for the psychic hero genre??? Choujin locke, Genma Taisen...they all came after Fight! Osper. Drome and Osper as characters are also pretty dope to me from what little I can scrape together.
