Tundra swan, Cygnus columbianus, at a river in the central Kanto, where I was shopping for research materials. Suddenly the sound of swans became high-pitched, causing a strained atmosphere, and the small Wagtails had been leisurely scavenging for food fled at once. I was certain that should be a hawk and looked up the sky, I saw a male Sparrowhawk, Accipiter nisus, flying through the sky at incredible speed. Subsequently a fish-eating Osprey, Pandion haliaetus, flew by gorgeously, but the birds in the river were unconcerned. Various raptores kept coming after then, so I spent an hour just looking at the sky, even though the swans were swimming right in front of me. Saitama Pref.

コハクチョウ（小白鳥） 資材の買い出しに行った関東中部の川にて。 と、白鳥の声が急に甲高くなって、あたりにさっと緊張が走り、のんびり餌をあさっていたハクセキレイたちも一斉に逃げていく。これは鷹がいるぞ、と顔を上げると、そこには猛スピードで空を貫いていくハイタカ（鷂）の♂。 続いて魚食いのミサゴ（雎鳩／鶚）が悠々と飛んできても、こちらはみなさま意に介さず。その後もひっきりなしにいろんな猛禽がやってくるので、せっかく白鳥が目の前にいるのに、ひたすら空を見ていた１時間。 埼玉県

The REI Outdoor School Overnight Backpacking Camping Crystal Cove video is up on Facebook and YouTube! ⛺️ I took a REI course in backpacking this weekend in preparation for my Yosemite backpacking trip this summer.
