When they first meet, Edge is too uptight and socially inept to really talk to this other him, and Pluto is completely and utterly convinced by Edge’s gruff “I’m a powerful, dangerous Captain of the Royal Guard” mask. But Pluto is how he is, and he’s trying to be polite even though Edge is scary and has more LV than Pluto has ever seen in his life.
At some point, these two get awkwardly left in the same room, probably waiting on their brothers or their respective Undynes to show up. Edge just sits and waits, arms crossed, scowling, and silent. Meanwhile Pluto is scared to death of doing something wrong or making Edge mad somehow, so he’s trying so hard to be still and quiet when everything in him wants to move around and look at things and talk. Stars above, does Pluto hate silence when he could be chatting instead.
After just a few too many minutes of supremely uncomfortable silence, Pluto breaks and asks Edge how his day was. Pluto is kind of mortified that his impulsivity made him talk to Edge of all people, but Edge just says it was fine. No big deal.
It honestly takes Pluto off guard, but he can not sit quietly anymore, so he asks what Edge did today. Edge answers. Suddenly the two are having an actual conversation and somewhere in the mix, Pluto mentions working on the ship model for his latest sci-fi tabletop rpg and Edge immediately goes on a full-blown RANT about his newest character and the figures he’s painting.
One real conversation is all it takes and suddenly they’re friends! Red is wildly confused next time he sees Edge and Pluto interacting, but Comet knew they’d work it out eventually.
