Soolians

Soolians are animals that are native to Akiridion Prime, often found eating scraps or garbage. Originally descended from omnivorous ambush predators, they would often lie in wait for prey to come close before launching at it. They are also avid scavengers, and wild-type soolians are often still found causing a ruckus when encountered. 

The antennae on their heads are often used for signalling and communication, with the bio-luminescent bits being able to brighten or darken to indicate different meanings. Their tail antennae are mostly used for scent marking territory. 

Soolian teeth are constantly regrowing, as they tend to loose teeth rather easily due to attempting to eat things they shouldn’t. Their digestion is known for being able to dissolve just about anything they can manage to get into their stomach. Their mouths and stomach can sometimes take up to 40 to 50% of their mass. 

Domesticated soolians have been around for at least thousands of keltons, and are much smaller than their wild-type cousins. Friendlier, more biddable, and much less likely to eat a hand. Their head antennae and eyes are larger and more expressive for communicating with their akiridion owners better. They’re rather common across the galaxy now, although widely regarded as ‘slimy’ and ‘kind of gross and cute at the same time’. 

They’re loveable and loyal, especially when well fed. One would not expect them to be as intelligent as they are, but they’re sometimes known for their ability to understand a variety of commands and have a rather large vocabulary compared to other domesticated animals.

Akiridion Wildlife: Geups

These are small, timid creatures that are found living in the more rocky areas on Akiridion. Their skin can change texture and color to match their environment, making it easier for them to blend in. They don’t actually have a mouth, absorbing energy from sunlight and breathing through the two large nostrils on their face. Most geups have fleshy apendages on their back that resemble local fungal growths, helping their disguises. They can actually change texture and color as well, to better blend with the local fungal life. 

During the day a geups will remain entirely motionless, absorbing as much light as possible. At night they will move to a new spot, adjusting so they get the most light possible during daylight hours. Finding them is often rather difficult, which is why there are only theories as to how they breed.

Akiridion Wildlife: Stelgids

The stelgid is a quadrupedal predator native to Akiridion Prime, renowned for their popularity in the serratorial games. Although they have no eyes, they rely heavily on their extremely developed sense of smell and their whiskers which sense vibrations and heat. They have a powerful bite, and razor sharp claws. 

Stelgids are primarily solitary creatures, roaming a territory that covers large areas. They reproduce through parthenogenesis, having one to two whelps every two keltons. While their young are small, they’re carried in the rear facing pouch. By two keltons they’ve reached full adulthood, and move on to territory of their own. Due to how little time it takes to reach maturity, they often are a pest animal among more rural communities on Akiridion Prime.  

One could liken them to the big cats of Earth, as they often produce purring calls caused by the vibration of specific structures in their nasal cavities. Used as both identifying calls to their whelps and to attempt to prevent fighting when crossing territories. As they are extremely aggressive, cannibalism and fights are very common. They’re also often hunted by ibleak, which swoop from above to catch them by surprise due to them having limited ability to perceive a flying threat. 

These are extremely popular creatures in media, due to their notoriety.
