Spotlight on ...
This is a new section to the #instagramadelaide blog where we hope to profile some (and eventually all) of your fellow Adelaide based instagrammers!
First up, is @othersuchthings.
Name: Jessica!
Age: 23 years, 9 months, and 6 days.
Suburb/Town: Adelaide.
I make a crust by: Selling beautiful luxury jewellery at Georg Jensen, whilst aspiring to one day also own and run my own photography business and make millions of dollars.
Top 5 favourite things about Adelaide: 1. The ageing population (this means ridiculously good thrift stores – ha!) 2. The Adelaide Central Markets 3. Lovely flat roads for bike riding! 4. cozy pubs with sticky floors 5. The plethora of unattended fruit trees that litter the suburbs surrounding the city.
What inspired you to start the monthly photo challenges such as #lifeinapril? #LifeInMarch actually started as a photo-a-day challenge that my friend @strat_ and I made up for ourselves to complete with our d-slrs! After about twelve minutes, we realised that life would be infinitely easier if we could just use our iphones. So, I created the challenge in Photoshop, shared on my feed in IG, and it all went from there. I wanted to continue the challenge for #LifeInApril, because I loved being able to meet lovely new phoneographers over Instagram. It was a much smaller challenge community than some of the other monthly challenges - and I loved it that way! People were actually able to interact, and everyone received feedback on all their images.
Favourite instagrammer (doesn't have to be adelaide based): This is a tough question – there are so many fantastic phoneographers out there! At the moment, I am really enjoying @thiswildidea’s feed. He takes the most adorable pictures of his dog in the most ridiculous of contortions. Also, he is traveling through America at the moment, and is documenting his travels and the people he meets. His pictures take everyone who looks at them on a journey!
Other instagrammers who create work that I am inspired by are (in alphabetical order):
@alaynaflores
@erin_love
@painted_data (I am married to that guy)
@vivaldina
Favourite app (apart from instagram): I am totally crushing on the new VSCOcam app… it’s camera calibration and exposure compensation/balance is fantastic! And I adore the ‘filmy’ effect it has on photographs. And at 99c – what a steal!
One thing we wouldn't know about you just from looking at your photos: I work full time in a management capacity, am studying visual arts at university, and I run a blog showcasing my life in a 366 photo a day project (using my digital SLR – no iphone photos allowed!) – I am committed to producing a blog post for every single day of 2012.
I was married at 20 years of age - and I met my husband in high school.
(ok, so that’s more than ONE thing.)
