YES, FINALLY GETTING BACK INTO MY WHEELHOUSE, LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO.

So. I've been wanting to do a drawing of some kind with both SaSA! AU Hatty and Hailey for a while now; originally it was going to be something like the Spider-Man pointing meme or something, but then I saw this post and well...inspiration struck https://www.tumblr.com/rhys-ravenfeather/802324338284036096?source=share

So you can think of this as a combination of that post, my original idea, and that other art meme thing I did last year...which I will acknowledge this is basically just one step above, but hey, I also used Ian from my FNAF AU, as well as Izzy, so hopefully that makes it just different enough, heh heh. (And yes, I altered Izzy's eyes and hair, gonna do another drawing soon-ish where I plan to talk about that more, but for now, there ya go.)

I know this is a very specific idea, but if anyone else has an AU character or two-turned-full-fledged-OC, you have my permission to steal this idea from me--I'd love to see what you come up with :P

When you're thinking of giving the main character of your original story a somewhat more major redesign, but you've already done drawings of her for your official book, and you'd probably have to redraw all your book drawings.

I'm…still working on trying to get the first Oasis To Oakwood Creek published, at least in a format I like, and will keep trying to work towards it. But between the fact that I was actually able to get the first draft of the book done, and that we're coming up to the end of the year, I figured I'd go ahead and do a series of drawings of Hailey's old family. Including one of her parents in their younger years.

And a drawing of Charles' brother, Hailey's Uncle Jericho, showing more of his true nature…in more ways than one.

Well, this was a long time coming. For a while now, I've been wanting to show the main OTOC characters' old family members, but kept putting it off, in part because of how intimidated I was by the idea. But seeing as how I'm hoping to get the first book published here before long, I figure now is as good a time as any to start, and do one 'family picture' per book. And I figured it was only fitting to start with Hailey's old family, minus her dad Charles, since I've already drawn him a couple times at this point (and plan on doing so again soon).

From left to right: her mom, Valeria King, uncle, Jericho Geist, and 'aunt', Violetta. Like Hailey herself, they're based off my versions of characters from my AHIT AU; here's a list of who's who, along with a couple other facts about each of them:

Valeria: Was based off Vanessa in my AHIT AU. Don't let that pretty face fool you, she takes more than a few cues from the character she was based off, and her mothering skills are just a couple steps removed from Margaret White.

Jericho: Was based off Moonjumper in my AHIT AU. Charles' older brother who has always carried some resentment and jealousy towards his brother, in part because of an unfortunate…accident he suffered when he was younger, as well as for other reasons I don't feel like getting into right now.

Violetta: Was based off Violet, the Florist/Badge Seller in my AHIT AU. Valeria's cousin (hence why 'aunt' is in quotes), and by the time of the main story, Hailey's only living relative who treats her with any kindness and basic decency.

On the 'original story-fication' of fanfiction.

I've been thinking a lot again recently about that post I've reblogged a couple times at this point about sanding the original names off and just turning a fanfic into an original story, and how sometimes, something can be lost in the process, eg. a meet cute story just having a big hairy guy who shows up sometimes for no reason, because he was originally Chewbacca in the Star Wars fanfic this original story started out as. Seeing as how I myself am working on an original story where many of the characters just so happened to have started out as AU/fanfic characters, I felt like putting in my two cents on this process, because I do definitely feel like there are pros and cons that come with the process of OC-ifying your AU/fanfic characters.

I will state for the record, though, that I understand that my case might be a little different, as for one thing, my OCs in my original story, Oasis To Oakwood Creek, were actually based off multiple characters from several different AUs--AHIT, FNAF, and BATIM, and I've decided to at least keep the first two around (Grace, if you end up reading this post, thanks again for inspiring me. You're incredibly awesome :) ). However long I actually end up keeping the original AUs around and roleplaying them, making art for them, etc. I don't actually know, but if nothing else, it will give me something to do when I'm not working on my books, so I've made up my mind that I'm not quitting any time soon :P

Now then, that being said, seeing as how my original story is basically a multicrossover fanfic with how many of the characters started out as my versions of characters from my various AUs, this does allow me to do things, and have them interact in, ways that I couldn't before, due to the nature of my specific AUs. 'Mustache Girl' and 'Bow Kid' are now sisters, due to having both been adopted by the same person (who is 'Sammy Lawrence' from my BATIM AU). 'Bendy' and 'Hat Kid' can explore a science fantasy world while looking for the former's kid sister, who was also the ghost kid possessing Foxy in my FNAF AU once upon a time.

And many of them are now also directly or indirectly related to my old webcomic OCs. Because why not? :P

However, there are also things from my original AU that I feel can't work in my original story--not because I doubt my ability as a writer, but because I feel like they probably wouldn't work within the context of the story, at least not without a LOT of tweaking.

I'm VERY proud of myself for the ideas I came up with for my versions of Hat Kid and Snatcher in my AHIT AU--i.e. having the former's species adapt to whatever environment they grew up in, and as such having Hatty herself adapt to Subcon Forest, and develop spooky, somewhat vampiric features from living there, and having the latter go from just being a 'normal' ghost to a big furry noodle as he got more and more corrupted. I LOVE these ideas that I came up with to fit the characters in my version of the story.

However, I just don't feel like things like that could plausibly fit into my original story. I do have ideas for the OCs I based off those two, but I'm not going to act like I'm not a little sad that I can't use the ideas I came up with for their original AU counterparts in OTOC, at least not without retooling them, and even then, it likely wouldn't feel the same.

TBH, I'm not really sure where I'm going with this whole thing, like I said, I guess I just wanted to put in my own two cents when it comes to ascended fanfiction.

Okay, at this point I have no idea when I'll be able to get OTOC published, but you know what? If and when I am able to get my book series published, I'm going to take a page out of Don Vultaggio's and Richard Galanti's books (pun intended), and have it stated in my contract that the publishing company and sellers are never to raise the price of my books, because I want my book series to be accessible to as many people as possible, inflation be damned.
