the deutz ag building complex on deutz-mülheimer straße is one of the most important sites in cologne's industrial history. It was here that the four-stroke engine known as the otto engine was developed by the company founder nikolaus august otto. the diesel engine also saw the light of day here. daimler and maybach worked here before founding their own companies. the factory was closed in 2002. since then, the site has been awaiting revitalisation, which has stalled again and again for various reasons.
