Day 11 (July 20): Favourite brOTP: Killian & Nemo

I loved Nemo in the show. I truly did, and I wished he’d stayed for more.

He was a perfectly flawed but good person. He had given in to wrath and grief and killed the people who murdered his family. And when the inevitable emptiness filled his heart, he didn’t give up or wallow in his guilt and grief.

He repented, in one of the best ways possible. He searched and found people like him, wayward souls with no one in the world and helped them. He didn’t dictate how they should act - he sympathized with their pain and saved them from destroying themselves like he nearly had done. He knew, better than most of his men, how revenge could destroy someone’s heart and mind, both while obsessing with it and after taking it.

He was good, and he gave all kinds of people a second chance at saving themselves, without judging them for their past mistakes.

And then a certain Killian Jones crossed his path. Orphan, unloved, alone, vengeful, miserable. And he tried to help him as well, to give him the chance he gave so many others, touching him with the promise that in the Mysterious Island, he’ll never go through loss or grief again.

And Killian at first was angry that this man suggested he stop his quest. At that point, he had nothing left to live for and he had already killed his father in order to make a step towards his revenge - he had gone in too deep to stop. Even though he felt he’d never love again, or feared opening his heart lest it got broken again when his loved ones inevitably died or abandoned him, he reluctantly followed Nemo’s orders.

And Nemo risked his own life to save Killian from the Kraken, as did his trustful first mate. Because Nemo wanted to welcome Killian in his family.

Perhaps he had a chance left. When Nemo told him about the Mysterious Island, Killian smiled sadly for a moment.

For a short moment, he thought he could do it, start all over again and never go through losing someone again.

Until his past caught up with him, and out of shame and guilt (not out of fear - if he had wanted to take Liam down he could’ve) he asked to leave.

And still Nemo tried to give him a chance. After Killian had admitted to him that he had killed his own father, Nemo was still willing to help him.

Nemo didn’t care about how bad someone was - he cared about how lost they were. Because Nemo himself was bad, very bad, for some time, and regretted it all his life. But what he couldn’t forget was feeling lost.

Even after so many years, he couldn’t forget how it felt. And all he knew was that he never wanted someone to feel that way. He made it his life’s mission to protect as many people as possible from that dreadful fate.

At the end, after everything, Nemo was obviously happy to see Killian having given up on his revenge and found love again. This showed how truly he cared for Killian, how seeing people happy wasn’t because of any obsession to repent and feel better about himself.

Captain Nemo was a truly good man, one of the most good-hearted and forgiving people in this show, even with a dark past of his own that he never forgave himself for.
