Let’s take a moment to talk about this candle.
An argument could be made that Regina scowls at it in the way that she does because the jester is irritating her, but perhaps there’s more to it than this.
“Make a wish.”
Regina grew up in a land where magic is real and wishes come true. She likely grew up making two dozen birthday wishes, wishing upon a hundred stars, desperately pleading for mother to be gentle, for daddy to be strong, for Daniel to come back to her, for the king to leave her alone. None of these wishes were ever granted. Years have passed and wishing has proved to be an utterly fruitless endeavor. Stupid girl. But yet year after year a cake is laid out before her, a flickering candle on top, a twitching reminder of wishes unheard.
And she scowls. Scowls at the wishes that haven’t been answered, scowls at the tradition that wants her to try again and again every year, scowls at life and fate and the powers of this magical world that have never granted her a thing.
WHAT?! #OUAT100
Watching Once Upon A Time with Killian Jones. Because of course. @colinodonoghue1 #OUAT100
It feels like a dream, surreal, like somehow I’ll wake up in the morning and it’ll all have been in my head.
This episode is a gift.
(Far too little Emma. Far too little Hook.)
Conclusion for today’s episode: Positively surprised on all accounts
