Late OUAT Rewatch Thoughts S5E11: Swan Song

Dinners at Granny’s are so overrated. What on earth is Snowing’s obsession with them? All the new crises befall them during celebrations there, Regina says the food isn’t even that great, and the whole ambiance just doesn’t seem right for “deathbed celebration.”

“Kelly, Hunter, Pistachio… oh my god. I just realized that all three of those work as baby names.” OK. I actually did think this was funny.

Thanks, Regina. The casual tornado is my favorite form of transportation. And “YOU WILL SEE ME AGAIN!” is scenery-chewing Bex at her finest.

This Dark!Hook jaw twitch cutting to past Captain Hook jaw twitch is a very important transition.

This backstory is the dumbest but I try to distract myself during it.

Years must work really differently in the Enchanted Forest.

So Papa Hook’s nurse fell in love and gave him a TLK. That’s not all bad. Really! It means that there’s still hope for the poor horse Regina cursed back in 4x14. Any old mare with a kind soul could come up to the slumbering stallion and Brennan Jones that shit to life.

Why is Charming Family Minus Emma so chipper? If I knew I was dying in an hour and thought “the best idea is to enjoy the time I have left,” I’d either be sobbing through the highest-calorie dessert I could order or participating in a wild, desperate orgy.

When counting jaw twitches, do I count each motion as a separate twitch? I need to know how others do their counting. Colin might've been in the low seventies for them this episode. I hope he took a good rest.

I don’t care if she “had” to die, I miss Nimue. She needs to come back whether it’s to romance the Blue Fairy or to assert her title of All Dark Ones, much like Rumple is now the Dark All-In-One.

They are so on-the-nose with this “kind of man you really are.” I can only hear that line a finite number of times before I stop taking it seriously.

Was Robin really drinking a glass of whiskey during this conversation? That’s the Kind Of Man™ everyone should aspire to be: “[sips whiskey] wtf is going on, wtf are we doing and how tf does it work?”

Late OUAT Rewatch Thoughts, S5E10: Broken Heart

Some things in this episode are just so funny in hindsight.

Rumple promising to be the courageous man of honor that Belle deserves.

Overall, preening Hero!Rumple is alternately annoying and hilarious.

Henry saying Regina and Rumple totally turned themselves around! They’re heroes now! (the latter much more so though)

Rumple talking about how he’s changed and his heart is now pure. Oops.

Belle saying she needs to protect her heart. That was pretty savage, Belle. But courageous and commendable. Especially if you’d just follow through.

On a serious note though, Henry didn’t “make Regina her best self.” That took 10 more years and losing or almost losing Henry, multiple times. Good luck with that, Zelena.

Also Nimue’s Waddle of Doom as she steps off the boat is the best bye

The End of the OUaT Rewatch

OKAY SOOOOOOOOOOO

I just finished rewatching the Season 5 Finale, which means that the hiatus rewatch of OUaT is officially over for me :( I’ve posted before about how great of an experience this has been so I won’t go into all of it again, but I would like to thank @ouat-rewatch/@whitesheepcbd for doing this because I think I forgot to do that last time.

Now! Some quick thoughts on Only You/An Untold Story.

First of all, I have a couple different theories on Hook’s unforgettable “aggressive bunny rabbit” line. I’m almost positive it’s foreshadowing, and I think everyone can agree that we’ll probably see at least one of these two characters in Season 6:

because obviously there is nothing else that aggressive bunny rabbit could refer to

SECONDLY! and this is an actual theory

I think I know why the Evil Queen is, apparently, invincible. What I would like to cite is Jekyll’s dialogue in the LoUS. David and Zelena ask him why Hyde looks nothing like him and is 10x stronger, and he explains that people’s dark sides appear how they imagine them. Jekyll imagines his evil side as gigantic, intimidating, damaged, controlling, and powerful. Regina imagines her evil side as her past self - the woman in the flashy dresses with the cleavage who has a grudge against Snow. Simply put, these evil sides were never physically within them prior to the serum - they were imaginary. Don’t get me wrong, the dark impulses are very much real, and karma, or some form thereof, likely is too. But do you really believe that the inside of Regina’s soul looks like some boxing ring - in the red corner, Cotton and Good Intentions! And in the blue corner, Evil Cleavage! - ? That’s just nonsense. Dark impulses are dark impulses - they don’t need to have physical form. (Nimue could be considered an exception, but she’s not a representation of dark impulses - her spirit is contained within the dagger, so she actually is there, and just happens to want to lead her newest victims astray. She’s just peer pressure’s physical form.)

I think that Regina and Jekyll lost the ability to shape their evil selves with their imagination once they split them - otherwise Hyde and EQ would be waaaay too easy to defeat to be season villains. But up to the point that the split happened, everything they thought about them became true. Regina had become convinced that the darkness was a result of her actions as the Evil Queen - so her darkness started looking like the Evil Queen. Regina believed that the Evil Queen could never forgive Snow White - so her darkness is after Snow White. Regina was told that she was having a battle against her darkness - so her darkness is going to fight to win the war. And most importantly, Regina thought that she would never be rid of her darkness - and now she never can. Not until she finds a way to put it back under her control, anyway. (Spoiler alert: the Evil Queen will be defeated by being put back inside Regina. Guarantee it.)

Now that my theories are done, I would like to confirm that I will be participating in the Once in Wonderland rewatch starting tomorrow (errr... today, I guess, it’s almost 1:30am)! I haven’t gotten around to watching the spinoff before so I really want to do that, and I think doing it with the rest of the fandom is a good idea :P I’m also going to try to liveblog every episode, since it will all be fresh reactions! Yay! No one cares but I’ve said it anyway so ha!

Mistake number one, Regina: You shouldn't have told Gold that "the Savior" doesn't know you're there. That would make Gold (well, me at least) suspicious. If he wants to know if Emma is there, you let him ask. Don't tell him, or he'll know something's up. He's perceptive and you should know that.

I know you just went through a very heartwarming journey (with the help of your mother) and got your memories of Zelena back, and went through greif with her but are you sure you actually love her, Regina? That's a pretty big step for knowing her (without trying to kill her) for, what, a couple months, maybe? And you've only been super sisterly-close with her for maybe a week? Idk, man.

"So, not many maids with untold stories then?"

In comes Hook (and Co) to save the day!!

"People of New York City..." I've never been to NYC, but I feel like that many people would not listen to Henry, a 13 y.o. kid, asking them to help him get his family back. And he's basically asking them to give him money (even though it's only change...I know how New Yorkers (and most people) are with their money). Also, I could, be wrong, but isn't it like illegal (or hugely fineable) to climb on the lion statues?? If not, it probably should be.

"I want to see you end her." Could it be? Is this the reincarnation of Evil Snow from S3 finale? Even if for a second?

I am not a fan of that red/blue separation CGI. Idk, it's kind of gross to me.

I like, and to an extent actually love, this idea, and I can't wait for season 6, but how come Regina is just now having these "issues" with the Evil Queen?? Wouldn't it make more sense for her to have this conflict in like season two-ish, or early season 3?

Can we talk about how Emma and Regina are just watching Henry and Violet's conversation?? 😅
