karasuno-centric, ukai pov; each member of the team including kiyoko and yachi gets their own chapter. i’ve recommended this one before too but it’s god-tier, also one of my all-time favorite fics in the fandom. on-point characterization, wonderful prose, the dynamics between each of them are *chefs kiss*, and every emotion kicks you full-force in the chest. ukai’s their big brother and their dad and their coach and i’m going to cry about it.

Is there an endless cycle of nice captain-delinquent players that Ohgiminami goes through every two years?

We have our soft-spoken ex-captain Akimiya...

...a group of over 10 actual delinquent team members in second grade who would rather beat up some random student, who looked at them for a bit too long, than go to pratice...

...but also another soft-spoken, normal, non-violent player who happens to be the only one from his year: Natsuse, a first-grader (translation by kuromantic).

That means Natsuse will 100% become the next captain in his second year after the Spring Tournament or even earlier (but probably not because then 11 seniors would leave the team at once lol). But that also means that Natsuse will probably be in charge of a group of gangster-looking dudes as the only second-year and oldest member of the team in two years.

Let’s hope for the best for our little setter 🙏🏻

Haikyuu Band AU: Miyagi Boys

AU where all the Haikyuu dorks go to the same high school and are in the Concert + Marching Band together. 

Ikejiri Hayato – Alto Sax

A childhood friend of Daichi’s and promised to join band with him, but they ended up going to different middle schools

Still joined cause friend solidarity and started making plans to make sure they get into the same high school

Chose alto sax cause friend solidarity (there was a slight mix up on which sax was chosen by each but they’re both chill with still being in the same instrument family)

Is a really good mentor to the younger kids and helps them navigate high school and started their band buddy system for the freshmen

Him, Daichi and Michimia participate in solo and ensemble every year with their own mini ensemble

Terushima – Trombone

Another one who was thrown into band by the parents to get disciplined and energy outlet

Takes to band like fish in water, enjoys it for the fun and trips and friends

Doesn’t take the music playing part super seriously at first, he can play well and keep up with the rest of the ensemble so there’s nothing else to it

Gets to high school and sees how good everyone is and their passion and challenges himself to become better

He’s also a gym rat and goes with other band members during concert season (Bokuto, Kuroo, Iwazumi, Tanaka…)

Hyakuzawa – Clarinet

Joined in high school because it was the only elective that fit in his schedule so the school threw him into it

Was very awkward when first joining cause he felt like was intruding on everyone else’s passion

Mainly because most everyone else chose to be in band and loves it to death, and has a long history with it (even those who are just joining their first year like him such as Tsukishima, Hinata, Lev)

Feels kind of guilty to be throw into it and liking it so much, he feels that he doesn’t have permission to like it

Hinata didn’t take a big liking on that attitude and had one of his pep-talks ‘If you like music and you like playing you belong here like everyone else’

Feels a lot better after Hinata’s pep-talk (who wouldn’t?) and now fully embraces being one of the band kids

Akimiya Noboru (Ougiminami Past Captain) – Trumpet

Trumpet because its loud and gets people’s attention and learn he’s there and tough

From a middle school similar to Dateko (see Dateko post for further details) but not as rough and tumble

But the band still had a reputation that wasn’t really preferred to have as a band so he made a plan to fix it

By making his middle school band go around the neighborhood and help out with free community service

Changing the school to have a wonderful group of delinquents helping out with garage sales, mowing lawns, walking dogs, the works

Keishin llikes him cause he has a way in wrangling the problem children while also being extremely scared of them at the same time

Towada Yoshiki (#1 Ougiminami) – Clarinet

From the same middle school as Akimiya and complained a lot about all of the extra community service he made them do

But after he left was very appreciative of what Akimiya did and kept up the new band tradition

Fits in well with the previous Dateko kids but even they sometimes scare him with their intensity

With Akimiya, continues the whole band community service thing with the rest of the Haikyuu dorks and it gives them very good publicity

He chose the clarinet because he likes how simple it is to carry it around and really likes playing it okay (he also doesn’t understand brass instruments, he’s tried but can’t get his lips to buzz)

Nakashima Takeru (Wakutani Captain) – Trumpet

Long family history of music and being in band, so took to it very passionately (his parents, his grandparents, their grandparents, his brother and then all of his siblings after him)

Had a hard time picking which instrument to play because everyone has already played every instrument so establishing himself as an independent strong musician is going to be a challenge

Eventually landed on Trumpet when he had his youngest sister point to which instrument he should play because he has to work his butt off no matter which instrument he ended up with

Can be the go-to wrangler for the second years cause they need a lot of help sometimes

His family always shows up to all of his events in full cheer squad mode with all of the other supportive Haikyuu family members

Kawatabi Shunki (#2 Wakutani/Pineapple Head) – Tuba

Loud, big, shiny? Tuba was a no brainer for him

Band trips is what he lives for, especially the bus rides (you can get away with so much during bus rides)

Went to the same middle school as Shirabu and loves to tell everyone about his weird punk goth stage (Semi revels in those stories)

Has fun causing trouble with the second years and stirring up mayhem with the ‘Fun Squad’ third years (Bokuto, Kuroo, Tendou and Suga)

Once had a deep conversation with Kindaichi about having a food name nickname getting the whole band into a heated debate about appropriate nicknames (Konoha still objects being called ‘Jack’)

Happy birthday Towada Yoshiki, 2nd year captain of Ougiminami! We only got to see a tiny bit of him, bit the amount of growth we saw him go through in just one game was phenomenal! His current concern is he feels as though his younger brother is growing independent of him. Cute. Aug 24th

We also can't forget the rest of the teams that played against Karasuno stealing Hinata, and Karasuno stealing Hinata back from the rest of the teams.

Hinata matches their energy, but he has no real structure, so he doesn’t do too well

it’s not until the team gets into their serious play mode that the team is super cohesive

Wakutani

amazingly, it was Takeru who stole him

he wanted to leave a legacy for his team

he really wanted the next little giant to come from his team, and since it can’t be him anymore, he has decided Hinata will take up that mantle

Ougiminami

Towada did it at first, just to get back at Karasuno

But also because he know wants to win, he doesn’t want to feel that defeat anymore

they all agree that Hinata will help with their new goal

their setter, Natsuse, is the only other 1st year so he sticks close to Hinata, becoming fast friends

Tokonami

their reason for stealing Hinata is actually the exact same as Ougiminami

but it was the libero who stole him, Sakurai is the sneakiest

and Hayato keeps quiet about how this feels like personal payback at Daichi

Kakugawa

Komaki, the setter, steals Hinata

once he hears how Hinata stood up for and helped Hyakuzawa at the training camp, he knows he needs that kid on the team to help their newbie

Hyakuzawa is beyond thrilled

he gets to hang with his friend all the time

plus Hinata manages to explain things in ways he can understand (and the fact Hinata praises him for every little thing is really nice too)

and now he has another first year on the team too

Tsubakihara

amazingly, it was Himekawa who stole Hinata

Echigo was not pleased

but Himekawa pleaded his case, how Hinata’s style matches theirs pretty well, so the captain eventually caved

Teradomari and Echigo are both a good solid influence over Hinata

Inarizaki

It was Suna who stole Hinata

the team managed to keep it a secret for a total of 37 minutes before KIta found out

he immediately returned Hinata to Karasuno, with his apologizes
