Evil Author Day
I know I’m pretty quiet on here but I really wanted to share a piece of what I’m currently working on. Right now out of my three current ocs—Mara, Quinn and Tori— Tori is my favorite. If you want to get to know her I tag everything ‘Luke and Tori”
Let me know what you think!
“Jesus fucking Christ,” Shianne came stomping down the stairs on the verge of tears. “My model isn’t coming.” Tori let go of Luke and went to comfort her.
“It’s okay we can just reschedule.”
“We can’t. I need to have these pictures submitted by tomorrow, otherwise they won’t consider me for the next round of fashion editorials.”
“I’m sure we can find someone else,” Alana came in from the balcony.
“The same size as Leila? With the same look? I don’t think so.” Both girls looked at Tori.
“Tori is about the same height as Leila,” Alana said with a smile.
“And I bet you she’s the same size,” Shianne pushed her sweater back so she could see the width of her hips. “Tori, have I told you that you are one of my favorite people in the whole wide world?” Tori frowned.
“No.”
“Tori, please? If you do this for me I will owe you a million favors and you can pick whatever piece you want from my closet.”
“Live a little, Tor. Have a drink, put on some lipstick and look pretty.” Tori looked from Alana to Shianne. She had no desire to get in front of the camera, but she knew what was riding on these pictures and she did not want Shianne to miss out on such a great opportunity.
“I’ll do it,” Shianne and Alana shrieked with joy, pulling Tori into a group hug. “But I’m not going to have any fun.”
“You don’t need to have fun you just need to be your usual grumpy angsty self. Now let’s get you dressed.” Tori followed her upstairs into one of the spare rooms where she kept her collection and her sewing machines. She stood on a tall box as Shianne dressed her in a sleeveless romper. “Now just do your face and your hair and I’ll meet you outside.” She smiled up at Tori before selecting a pair of heels from the closet and walking down the stairs. Tori looked at herself in the three faced mirror in front of her. She tried to pull the shorts down and her breasts in before picking up her sweater off of the floor. Tori wrapped it around her shoulders before walking down the stairs.
In the kitchen she dug around in her kit and her purse, pulling out her makeup bag and a box of bobbi pins. She pinned her hair half up before touching up her makeup in a mirror on the wall. Tori was so focused on getting ready that she jumped when she felt something cold bump her arm.
“I’m pretty sure Alana said drink, then lipstick,” Luke smiled down at her as he offered her one of the tequila shots he was holding.
“That’s very true,” Tori set her makeup brush down and took the glass from him. “Here’s to you no longer needing to use a fake ID,” Luke laughed as he clinked his glass with hers before the both took a shot. Tori took one last look in the mirror before turning back to Luke, smoothing the front of the romper down over her legs. “How do I look?”
“Beautiful,” his eyes locked with hers before looking her up and down. He took a step closer. “You always look beautiful.”
“Victoria the sooner you get out here the sooner we can start drinking.” Alana yelled from the balcony.
“Oh I’ve already started drinking,” she set her glass down on the island, her eyes still locked with Luke’s. Tori ran a hand over his chest as she walked past him out the balcony and down the stairs. Luke felt like he was floating as he poured himself a drink and walked outside. As he stood out on the balcony and watched as Alana and Shianne posed Tori near one of the back walls, he tried to work up the courage he would need later to tell her how he really felt.
“Come with me,” Shianne surprised him when she came running up the stairs a moment later. She grabbed Luke’s arm and started pulling him into the house. “You can thank me later.”
“Thank you for what?”
“You’ll see,” she pulled him upstairs into her sewing room and started digging through the racks. Shianne pulled out a black satin short sleeved shirt and handed it to Luke. “Put these on with a pair of black jeans and boots that aren’t so. . .flamboyant. Have Tori fix your face and hair then meet us outside.” She grabbed a plaid baby doll dress and a pair of black ankle boots before racing back outside. Luke did as he was told. When he walked back downstairs, Tori had changed her outfit and was waiting to make him up.
“I feel like we’re being set up,” she tried to hide her nervousness as Luke sat on the stool in front of her.
“Maybe Shi just likes how we look when we stand next to each other.” Tori stepped between his legs and started dabbing concealer under his eyes.
“Maybe Shi needs to stop trying to force certain things to happen sooner than they are intended to.”
“Who says there has to be a specific timeline for when certain things are going to happen?”
“Who says all parties involved feel fully ready for certain things to happen? Turn around.”
“What if not being ready is just a nice way of saying you’re not interested—ouch!” Luke winced as she coiled his hair back into a tight bun.
“What I’m not interested in is rushing into a relationship when I know for a fact that I am not ready for that yet,” Tori spun Luke back around and set a hand on either of his thighs. “When all of this bullshit is over and they’re all occupied with your party we can talk more. Okay?” Luke frowned but he nodded as he stood. He followed Tori back outside where Shianne and Alana had moved their set up across the yard. Shianne’s face lit up when she saw them standing next to each other.
“Perfect,” she guided them so that Tori was standing in front of Luke. “Luke put your hands on her waist.” He did as he was told. Tori took a deep breath as she let Shianne pose her with her hand behind Luke’s neck.
“I need a fucking cigarette.”
“No smoking in these outfits,” Shianne stepped back behind Alana. “Now look at each other.” Tori tilted her head back until her eyes found Luke’s, the corner of his mouth ticking up in a smile.
Tori smiled back.
In that moment, she forgot about the moment they just had in the kitchen. She kept her eyes on his, listening to Alana as she called out things for them to do:
Face each other!
Put your hand on his cheek!
Hold her hand and walk towards us!
Turn back towards each other!
Hold her close Luke!
Now kiss!
“NO!” They said in unison, stepping away from each other.
“Don’t be so immature. It's in the name of art, my art.” Alana stepped forward with her hands on her hips. “It’s not like it’s something you two haven’t done before.” She added when they still did not listen.
“Now I need a drink and a cigarette,” Tori pinched the bridge of her nose.
“Hey,” Luke took her empty hand in his, taking a step closer to her. Tori looked up at him, his face was full of understanding as he picked up her other hand. “Stop giving a fuck what they think.” Tori’s eyes brightened as she let go of his hands. Luke held her waist with one hand, pulling her hips to his. With his other hand he pushed a stray hair away from her face and over her shoulder. Tori’s skin was on fire, her breath shaky as he cupped her face in his hand. Luke ran his thumb back and forth across her cheek as he licked his lips.
Tori closed her eyes.
She felt Luke press his forehead to hers, his breath on her cheek as he nuzzled his nose against hers. When Luke pressed his lips to hers, Tori’s breath caught in her throat, her skin tingling as she pressed her body to his. One hand slid around his waist and pulled him closer, the other up his chest and over his shoulder to tangle in the nape of his neck. She tried to breathe as Luke parted her lips with his tongue, pressing it to hers as he cupped the back of her head to deepen the kiss.
What felt like forever was only a moment. She would never admit it, but Tori did not want that moment to end.
When Luke pulled away they were both breathing heavily. He pecked her lips once more before looking over at where Alana and Shianne had been standing only a minute before. They were gone.
“Those bitches,” Tori grumbled as Luke looked back at her shaking his head.
Mutuals send me a heart and i’ll compliment you!
@rhapsodyinblueyellowgreen (my ask box isnt working for some reason so here’s a separate post)
MY TWIN! grace i love you! you’re such a sweetheart, like seriously one of the kindest purest people on here. AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON YOUR FICS. you are 10000000% the most iconic lumax writer, (right up there with rachel and kathryn). you characterize lucas and max so perfectly every single goddamn time, no one can even come close. ‘Middle School Romance’ had me squealing and craving pretzels with yellow mustard for WEEKS. and then you pulled a stranger things 2 and made the sequel even better than the original which i didnt even think was possible. and let’s not all forget ‘In The Seatlle Rains’ because thats one of my favourite mileven fics ever. it’s so cute and the scenery is beautiful and i could actually see it happening canonically!!! and then everyone!!! grace went and changed the script for s2, because the actual scene is “I called you every night, every night for-” “667 DAYS” FORGET 353. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE 2 YEAR GAP NOW.
i could go on to write for a long ass time but honestly grace you’re the best, and im so happy that we’re mutuals and friends. you are incredible, both in your talent and in who you are as a person. i cant wait for you to become a bestselling author so i can stock up my bookshelf with your stuff.
The entire crew, all together at last!
I had a lot of fun designing the different shapes and color combos on display here. I'm so excited for everyone to meet them all!
Updated references for Levee and Autumn!
Another character from my Project Hail Mary fanfic, Our Saving Grace (on AO3). Levy (like the water embankment) is soooo fun to write for. Nervous little sucker.
