I'm amazed by your girlfriend's temperament because when I get into a debate with a partner I get really aggravated and end up arguing, haha.
Oh, she gets pissed, too. She's a lot better than I am about not losing her cool, though, and at calming me down when I lose mine. 'Cause when I get overly pissed, that genius-plus IQ I'm so proud of (and which hasn't helped me make anything much out of my life) goes right out the window and I start foaming at the mouth.
But she can just be like, "Rob, settle down," and I drop from "Hulk SMASH" back into Bruce Banner mode, and I'm like, "Oh. I was being an asshole, wasn't I? Again."
I mean, I'll get there on my own eventually, but it's like she knows exactly what buttons to press to get me to realize what I'm doing. No mean feat, especially considering that depending on where I'm at in my cycle, my bipolar disorder can make it difficult for me to control my emotions, and my head injury exacerbates that.
But she manages to cut through all of that. Or rather, to help me cut through if much more quickly than I would on my own.
Off the top of my head, I can think of a number of factors that come into play as far as her ability to do take me from volcano temperatures to subzero like that in less than a heartbeat (metaphorically speaking).
She is quite probably smarter than I am (just with less life experience).
She is (usually) much more reasonable and even-tempered.
She makes logical, coherent, and often irrefutable points even when she's pissed off.
I feel like a total jerk when I say anything that upsets her, and finally...
Although she didn't have to bust it out this time, she has a sneer that could stop a fucking train and make it question its entire existence.
I mean, seriously. Hostile invasion? We don't need weapons; just have Ree sneer at the invading forces, and they'll drop their weapons and meekly invite us for tea and pie, and oh, by the way, sorry about all that invasion nonsense, and what can they do to make it up to us.
Also, I love her.
