"Ourson nods. A creature that makes fluid in its own lungs may not sound like something that would survive but most creatures has some construction oversight when you look under the hood. He watches his partners entire body shutter as it breathes, its back hitting the wall on the exhale in what Ourson think might be exhaustion. Whatever counts for exhaustion in something like Antoine.

He doesn’t quite know why Antoine insists on the facade of humanity when he isn’t even good at it. Ourson had even told him once when he’s walked into the mens bathroom to find his partner hunched over the sink staring into the wall spanning mirror. It was hard to see in the dark, at first he had worried it was plucking out its own eye, then as he got closer there was a wet sound, then porcelain clattering as something hard fell into the sink, then another. Ourson couldn’t make it out at first, the sink was the same shade.

Antoine had all but jump on him, its hands on his face and jaw, working his muzzle open. Its finger poked at his canines and drew blood. “I thought so,” Antoine said, “I made too many.”

That had been a few months ago. Ourson still wasn’t sure how to explain that humans don’t have a second set of teeth like he had, and that maybe Antoine might wanna pull those out too if he wants to pretend to be one, but the blood left behind in the first round had unnerved the staff.
