Decorative Sunday: Adventures in Light and Color
On this, the final Sunday of 2025, we’re highlighting images from 1937 book Adventures in Light and Color: An Introduction to the Stained Glass Craft, by Charles Jay Connick (1875-1945). Published in New York City by Random House, the book is full of mounted color images of stained glass windows, and rendered illustrations of the windows – Connick refers to these as cartoons – to highlight images, patterns, or technical details.
Also a painter and muralist, Connick is best remembered for his work in stained glass – on display throughout the country. Milwaukee is home to Connick’s stained glass in the St. Joan of Arc Chapel, on the Marquette University campus.
