small break to play DA:I.
Goal for this week is to have Hook's queue filled up and running by tomorrow evening, and then I will continue to work on him Thursday and all day Friday I will be on Charming, queuing (and writing) the starters I owe on him.
//I wanna know how you feel about the many accusations of misogyny that surround Hook, especially from the OUAT fandom in particular, and whether or not you think they're valid or misguided. (misconception meme)
Honestly when it comes to this (and I'm not sure where you or anyoneelse I'm in a mutual with stands, so I apologize if I offend. And pleaseknow I don't mean to) ... I think people are a little nuckin futs.I think people look into the strangest reasons to hate ships on shows, and no one is as nuts as the anti-Captain Swan people can be. I don'tship Captain Swan on the show because of the way it is written, becauseof the way the writers have completely changed a character and his originalbackground and actually original intent for the show in order to make himthis tragic backstory love interest. He's become flat and unappealing and that's the reason I don't like it. As for accusations of misogyny ... I don't think ouat does this, but I knowI play him as such at times. And I honestly think he should be played thatway. It fits his character. It's literally who he is. Does this mean I agree withmen who objectify women (or anyone)? No. But some men do. And if youplay or write the type of man who does, you should commit to that. I don't know I'm like the hardest person to type down what I'm thinkingbecause I tend to jump all over the place (I should have taken my adderallbefore posting that meme xD) but in the long run, yes. I do think the accusationsof misogyny can be valid ..but only in season 2. Once he became intended fora love interest, most of Hook's personality was wiped out and replaced. Hisdark past was ignored, his former behavior to women changed completely. So as far as misogyny and Captain swan...No. I don't think its valid, and Ihave seen some people claim that he's objectifying Emma. Please. Feelfree to hate CS for valid reasons, but that's just one I cannot justify. If anything, hate it because he's too fucking romantic towards her. To the point where itmakes no sense. People are not like that in real life and it freaks me out that so many peopleseem to think relationships work like that. Like you're going to find some dudewho's murdered people in the past for whatever reason and he's going to socharming and incredibly handsome and he's going to sweep you off your feetand change everything about himself for you... Newsflash. If it barks like a dog,and scratches like a dog, it has fleas like a dog. And you can chase them awayfor moments at a time .. but those damn fleas will always come back.
People don't change just because they fall in love. But I'm getting off topic but yes those are my thoughts on that.I hope they were clear I feel like they jumped around a lot but I have so much Id love to say and like my fingers don't move fastenough for my brain so I'm left here screaming in frustration and thenI lose my will/motivation to explain xD
Why is it so hard for people to understand Hook's hatred for Peter Pan? Am I seriously the only one who has ever been disillusioned about something, only to come face to face with a person who hasn't. Who isn't jaded, who still has hope...and you want to just wrap your fingers around their neck and choke the hope out of them because you remember how wonderful it was when you felt the way they did, but life broke something about you and now you can never get that feeling back... I might have a problem. Maybe that's why I connect with this muse so hard. But at the end of the novel when Hook is doing his best to to get Peter to show "bad form" like jesus I've been there. I've so been there. Contempt for other people because you hate something about yourself, is real and alive. And its not a 'villain' thing. People face struggles like this ever day which is another reason I don't agree with just the straight villain portrayals either. JM Barrie did such a good job of making the pirate's more than just villains. He gave them fantastic qualities and character quirks a la this song (except not quite so..Disneyish xD) In fact I'm pretty sure Flynn's verse sums up Hook perfectly. && I'm so tired of finding portrayals on my other account who only seem to focus on one side. There is so much more to him than OUAt (oh my jesus is there) but he's not a brutal killing machine either. Hook is vicious and cruel and utterly selfish, but he's also charming and witty and smart and side achingly funny. Captain Hook is best written as a fucking person and it makes me so sad that people honestly think a character has to be either/or. You're missing the entire point of character development and good writing if you think you're doing anything but a disservice to characters when you only write them one specific way. and I don't mean "oh go include a 'dark hook' " ... What the fuck is a dark Hook? Hook is inherently dark and that's something I came to terms with the first few months of writing on this blog. I had him separated like that and then I realized Hook is Hook. There is no dark version of the character. He is inherently dark. He's a goddamn fucking pirate. I just get so sad that people honestly lose the big picture about his character and how to write him in the biggest of ways. Like, please do not murder my baby like that okay? It's painful to see.
I am so protective over this character it's ridiculous. I literally care about no other muse the way I care about him. The inspired rants are forthcoming, but first drafts and Charming.
My moms talking to me about once upon a time and I'm like "I've never seen that show" and she is all "you'd like the guy who plays Captain Hook" Me: who is that? Mom: I don't know his name Me: no is that like some character in the show? Mom: it's Captain Hook Me: ....? Mom: from Peter Pan? Me:.... Mom: the book you were obsessed with growing up. Me: I have never even heard of that book Mom: the character we had to chase down at Disney world when we went!!! Me: we've been to Disney world!?
